Liquor vends displaying lewd posters penalised
Moga, May 29 The assistant excise and taxation commissioner (AETC), Hardip Bhamra, said she had constituted separate teams for removing these posters. "By evening, we had issued challans to 12 liquor shops and directed the contractors to remove the posters of women," she said. It may be mentioned that the National Commission for Women and many woman organisations had of late raised the issue of nuisance that such posters at liquor vends create. Bhamra warned the liquor contractors to remove the posters of woman models immediately or face legal action. |

Two Abohar residents killed in road mishap
Abohar, May 29 The deceased were catering contractors and were returning after finishing their task in a village near here. The police reached the site and initiated the inquest proceedings. In another incident, a speeding pick-up van crushed Main Kanwar (40), her sister Om Kanwar (32) and nephew Virender (12) to death at the bus stop of Binjarwala village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar-Loonkaransar road (NH 15) on Tuesday afternoon. The victims were waiting for a bus when the driver of the van reportedly lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn, witnesses said. The driver fled from the spot after the incident. |

Abohar, May 29 The city police had thrice planned “operation night dominance” in the past couple of months, but no cop was ever found patrolling in any part of the sub-divisional town, affected residents in Gobind Nagari, Patel Nagar, Circular road, Model Town regretted. Commuters complained that miscreants throng to the railway foot bridge around midnight when the Haridwar-Sriganganagar, the Rewari-Sriganganagar and the Sriganganagar-Sarai Rohila AC Express trains arrive. They chase the commuters, pass indecent remarks to women and snatch valuables. Neither the GRP nor the Punjab Police ever checked their activities. Regretfully, the police said no such incident had ever been reported in the past.

Bathinda, May 29 Further, Abhishek (93.2 per cent) and Riya Gupta (93 per cent) of the school stood second and third, respectively, in the district. Besides, six students of the school secured more than 80 per cent marks. Fazilka, May 29 In a press release issued here, the Deputy Commissioner said that the optimum period for sowing paddy was in the middle of June but some of the farmers have started sowing it in May. The DC said early sowing depletes the water table, which was already quite low.
