A massive fire at the 220 kv Lalton Kalan substation here on Friday and the subsequent damage caused to the power transmission equipment continues to haunt the city residents who are facing unscheduled power shutdowns for hours together at day and night in the extremely hot weather conditions.

Rs 35 lakh recovered from car
Mandi Gobindgarh, May 27
The police recovered Rs 35 lakh from a car during a naka on the GT Road, said SHO Gurmeet Singh here today. District traffic Inspector Hari Chand along with the local police party checked the car being driven by a resident of West Bengal.

Infighting within SAD, Sekhon ‘greets’ partymen

2 robbers arrested
Phillaur, May 27
The local police has busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two of its members. They have been identified as Sangar and Raju, both residents of Phillaur. About 25 tolas of gold jewellery worth Rs 7.5 lakh have been recovered from their possession.

The Friends’ Club of Doraha drubbed Jarkhar Seniors 8-2 in the Prithipal Singh Memorial Seven-a-Side Hockey Festival being organised jointly by the Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, Jarkhar, and the Ludhiana Sports Welfare Association at Jarkhar village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, 15 kilometers from here last evening.

Cricket: Ludhiana-Mohali match ends in draw

The two-day match between Ludhiana and Mohali played in the ongoing Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament (u-19) for the Dhruv Pandove Trophy held at Punjab Agricultural University ended in a draw.
