Proposed
Shrine Act
Haridwar, May 7 Now Ganga Sabha has started an agitation at Har-ki-Pauri itself where members, teerth purohits and priests are making people aware of the impact of
the recommended shrine Act proposals. General Secretary of the Ganga Sabha Virendra Shree Kunj said that government should take into consideration the opinion of them as well as of teerth purohits before taking any decision in this regard as for almost 100 years Ganga Sabha has been the sole managing body of Har-ki-Pauri religious affairs. Notably, Ganga Sabha is the legal managing authority for Ganga Sabha proceedings since 1916 as per legal agreement between Ganga Sabha committee and British government. Teerth purhoits claimed that since ages their forefathers have been conducting religious rituals-rites at Braham Kund Har-ki-Pauri, which is Ganga Sabha' s private property. The proposal to appoint priests at these temples on monthly salary payment has also not gone down well with the teerth purohits-priests as they term it as hurting the centuries-old traditional system that has been carried by them for generations. Suraj Sukhola of the Ganga Sabha said that they will oppose this decision by bringing this to notice of Uttarakhand Chief Minister as well as all the ministers, dignitaries who come to Har-Ki-Pauri for religious purposes. Yuva Teerth Purohit Sabha has also come out in open against making of Act regarding managing of Har-ki-Pauri affairs as they too sat at the agitation venue led by Ujjwal Pundit. Meanwhile, Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar Society has written a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and Garhwal Commissioner, demanding declaration of Kushavrat ghat as national property. This demand has been made in view of safeguarding the heritage property from land mafia, who has been eyeing this property which is near Har-ki-Pauri. Chief of the Holkar Vikas Sansthan Sangeeta Rani said that government should take a hold of the Kushavrat ghat and related land on which Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar dharamshala is build. Society members Ajit Semwal, Surendra Chauhan, Ashok Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Rooplal, Radhika Vasant, Shiv Dayal, Ram Niranjan, Khush Dayal and Hari Dutt have also written to Indore Commissioner in this regard to pave the way for government takeover, citing the recent illegal selling deed of this ancient Kushavrat ghat. |
Now, NOC must for installing mobile tower
Dehradun, May 7 Besides this, a team of civil engineers will review the parameters related to the strength and fire safety in the existing towers. The DM passed these instructions after a delegation led by MLA Rajkumar met him with some councillors complaining about towers mushrooming in the congested and residential colonies in the city, violating the Supreme Court norms. Raj Kumar alluded to a mishap which took place in Karanpur yesterday where a mobile tower caught fire and vehicles of the Fire Department could not reach the venue due to narrow lanes where the mobile tower was installed. Councillor Dr Vijender Pal Singh said more than 100 such towers had been installed on the roofs and on vacant plots. The radiations thus emitted by them were inviting various ailments. Another councillor Nanu Sehgal raised fingers on the modus operandi of MDDA officials whereby they were permitting these towers in the residential colonies. The DM took serious note of this and issued directions to the MDDA to check the menace. |
Health services hit due to lab staff agitation
Dehradun, May 7 The striking medical laboratory technicians held a protest demonstration at Doon Hospital in support of their demands. Their main demands include better pay scales and facilities and regularisation of their services. The Uttarakhand Medical Technicians Association, spearheading the strike, threatened that if their demands were not met by May 14, they would be constrained to go on an indefinite strike, paralysing the medical and health services in the state. Haridwar: Hundreds of patients got affected today due to the state-wide strike by laboratory technicians here today at Mela hospital. The strike was carried out under aegis of the Uttarakhand Medical Lab Technician Association. Wearing black bands, the lab technicians boycotted the OPD services at pathology lab, protesting jointly at the hospital. District chief of the UMLTA Pankaj Verma said lab technicians play a pivotal role in providing medical services to the people, but the state government discriminated with them by not giving them due facilities. Verma said as per the association’s decision, if by May 14, their nine-point agenda demands were not met, then emergency services would not be let off from their indefinite strike from the next day. Talking to the TNS, state spokesperson of the association Umesh Saini said despite doing sensitive job of blood-bank sampling, the lab technicians had to face partiality at the hands of the administration and the government both. He cited the low-grade pay structure and other facilities provided to the other similar-ranked medical department employees as one of the main reasons of resentment among the lab technicians. “Today’s strike was symbolic but after May 14, if our demands are not met, then our strike will extend and the government will be responsible for the problems that people will face,” said Saini, while addressing the agitating lab technicians at Mela hospital. Due to the strike of the lab technicians, it were the patients who had to suffer the most, as pathology and other medical reports were unavailable to them today. However, blood bank services and the already-admitted patients in the hospital were not brought under the purview of the strike. |

CREATION OF FOUR POLICE RANGES
Dehradun, May 7 The state has been divided into four ranges only for the Police Department, with each commanded by an IPS officer, but from the administration point of view, the state has two ranges, Kumoan and Garhwal. This anomaly has instilled a sense of frustration among the officials over this issue. DIG, CID, Abhinav Kumar’s reluctance to join in as DIG, Pauri, further fuelled speculations rising over the subject. Then low crime rate and less than two-thirds police force deputed in Pauri and Pithoragarh range in comparison to Dehradun range rendered these areas insignificant in the eyes of the police officials. Naintal too pales in comparison to the Dehradun range in this respect as well. In this entire argument, former Director General of Police, JS Pandey, who had been instrumental in introducing the new range paradigm in the state has a different point of view. He said : “The police officials must forsake the mentality of measuring the strength of the men they are commanding. There are too many IPS officers for this small state who, as a matter of fact, have not much to do and, hence, remain attached with the police headquarters for long durations. The ranges were created to provide satisfaction of field work to them." Police officials demanded four Commissioners to be deputed in these ranges as well to bring in development, if that was the main reason cited for creating four ranges for the police. They are right in their assertion that many senior IAS officers also do not have adequate work. They could be appointed as Commissioners in these ranges. |
