Bathinda, May 4 Speaking to TNS, with happiness ringing in his voice, Navdeep, who did his schooling from Kotkapura and MBBS from Amritsar, said, "I was keen on appearing for the UPSC exam during my school days as well. But the determination came while working at a rural medical hospital. Working in a village, I was inspired to work harder for the needy." Choosing anthropology and Punjabi literature as his subjects, Navdeep dedicated 4-6 hours everyday to his preparations. "I never shut myself up in a room with books. After working from 9 am to 2 pm, I used to study for 4-6 hours daily. While preparing for the exam, I used to take out time to attend marriages and birthday parties as well. I also never attended any coaching class as they ask the students to mug up," he said. Talking about the rampant corruption in government and administrative sector, he says, "Everyone has two options - the right one and the easy one. I have decided to be the change that I want to see in the system," he said. Navjot, who chose Punjabi literature and geography as her subjects, said, "Clearing the UPSC was my childhood dream. While doing my internship after graduation, I felt the need to be actively involved in serving society. What could have been better that being an IAS officer?" Faridkot girl gets 97th rank
Faridkot, May 4 Out of a total of 910 candidates recommended by the UPSC for appointment, Neha Arora has got 97th rank in the final merit list. Pawan Arora, Neha's father, is an Income Tax Officer in Faridkot. "Neha had her primary and high school education in Faridkot. Up to class X, my daughter was a student of Saint Mary Convent School in Faridkot and for her +1 and +2 education in the medical stream, she joined the Government Brijindra College in Faridkot," said her jubilant father. Neha did her MBBS from the Government Medical College, Patiala, and cleared the civil service exam in her second attempt. |

Boy held for raping minor
Muktsar, May 4 The police said that a migrant labourer of Bihar had yesterday complained to them alleging that his nine-year-old daughter was raped last evening at a secluded place near the grain market of Malout. “Acting upon this, we registered a case and during the investigation, arrested a boy, who not only committed the crime but also confessed that earlier on April 26, he had also raped an eight-year-old girl, a student of class III, near Harji Ram Mandi,” said investigating officer Tirlok Chand. He added that the accused allured the girls by offering them food and took them away. The accused is the son of a farmer, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagri, Malout, and has been sent to the juvenile home. Meanwhile, the victim is under treatment at the Civil Hospital, Malout. |
