Garbage disposal in city suffers

Only 100 tonnes out of the total city garbage of more than 300 tonnes could be disposed of in the garbage disposal plant in Dadu Majra today.

19-yr-old run over by bus
Panchkula, May 4
A 19-year-old boy hailing from Garhwal, who had recently come to the town in search of greener pastures, was run over by a Haryana Roadways bus near Labour Chowk here today.

PGI docs threaten to go on strike
Chandigarh, May 4
The stalemate over the alleged assault on a doctor by a technician at the PGI continued for the second day as none of the parties relented from their stand. While the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) insisted upon a written apology from the technician, Gurpreet Sethi, for the incident, the technician refused it stating that he was being framed by the doctor to settle an old enmity.

Fire dept issues sealing notice to Taj Hotel
Chandigarh, May 4
City Taj Hotel has been served with sealing orders due to the non-compliance of fire safety norms issued by the fire and emergency department a month ago. Municipal Corporation Chief Fire officer (CFO) today issued sealing notice to the hotel according to which if the hotel management does not comply with the fire safety norms recommended by the department, the hotel will be sealed by May 30.

GMADA decides to fix allotment price of plots
Mohali, May 4
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has decided to fix the allotment price at around Rs 6,100 per sq yd for plots in the Chief Minister’s pet residential scheme at Anandpur Sahib. 20 per cent of the plots are likely to be put to auction while the rest will be allotted by draw of lots.

Youth gets life imprisonment for murdering man
Ambala, May 4
Additional Sessions Judge, Ambala, RC Dimiri sentenced life term to a youth of Ambala in a murder case here. According to prosecution, a ration depot holder Himanshu was stabbed to death by Arun Kumar alias Monu on October 23, 2010.

3 held for stealing construction material

The PCR wing of the local police has arrested three youths for stealing construction material from Panjab University last night. The accused, Kamal and Shinder, were arrested and 250 kg of iron material was recovered from their possession.

16 teams to vie for cricket trophy
Panchkula, May 4
As many as 16 teams have confirmed their participation in the 16th All-India Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda U-15 National Day/Night League Cricket Championship. There will be 12 teams from India and four International teams from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kuwait and Sri Lanka. The championship will be held from June 7.

32 cagers to undergo training

As many as 32 basketball players in both boys and girls category were selected to undergo a training camp. A final team will be selected to represent the city in the upcoming 63rd Junior National Basketball Championship to be held at Puducherry from May 23 to 30.
