DERA BASSI, MARCH 25
Residents, litigants and lawyers of Dera Bassi have been facing harassment due to the absence of a Judicial Complex here. The lawyers and litigants have been demanding a separate Judicial Complex for the smooth functioning of court work. Currently, the judicial work is being carried out under the roof of administrative complex for temporary basis for past four years. Though efforts had been made to find out the suitable place for the construction of this complex but these could not succeed till now. The problem of traffic on the approaching road for courts and parking of vehicles was also rising day by day along with the difficulties for the smooth functioning of judicial work.

As per information, three places had been identified for the purpose. One at Devinagar village which is situated near national highway and easy accessible for the people and one site was identified at Dhanouni village near new grain market which falls on the side of city but the law department had not given its consent to one site out of these sites. The SDM Dera Bassi, Rajesh Tripathi, said that the proposal of the three sites had been sent to the law department for further action. The authorities would proceed according to the consent of law department.

Earlier, the law department had deposited over Rs 6 crore for getting land for the construction of courts complex and it was situated near dumping site of city. Later, the lawyers and other people had objected on the same land because some part of this land was found the land of choe in the record of the revenue department. They feared the flooding if construction was done on this choe land. Raising the objection on this land, a PIL was also filed in the High Court and the efforts of finding suitable land could not be successful. President of the local Bar Association, advocate Mukesh Gandhi, and former president, Anmol Singh, have demanded that the Judicial Complex should be constructed on the suitable place soon. They preferred the site near Devinagar village, which was easily approachable for the people and situated in the open area.

Former president of the Bar Association Jaspal Singh said early solution of finding land for the construction of courts complex should be found and disputed land should be avoided for this purpose.

Litigants and lawyers have been facing problems of sitting and putting the records due to congested place, he added.
