Farmers’ interest will be protected: Minister

Moga, March 17
Agriculture Minister Jathedar Tota Singh said the state will make concerted efforts to protect the interests of farmers and continue with subsidies being given on power and canal water for irrigation in Punjab.

Disappointed over the proposal of the UPA to cut subsidies to two per cent of the GDP, he said farmers would suffer due to hike in prices of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs. After assuming the office of Agriculture Minister, the senior Akali leader Jathedar Tota Singh arrived to a warm welcome at his home here this afternoon. — TNS
