Police help sought to check cheating in exam
Faridkot, March 13 Four days after the chairman, Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), changed the supervisory staff at this examination centre, the new staff faced a tough time in conducting the exam due to the stiff opposition put up by the school management. As the school management did not even allow the supervisory staff to enter the exam centre, so the education department took the assistance of the police to not only help the staff enter but also provide them with security while discharging their duty. “Invigilation for three hours in an exam hall is like living in very hostile atmosphere as some students appearing in the exam put up firm resistance while seeking to check copying,” said a member of the supervisory staff. “So, in view of the threats to the supervisory staff at this exam centre, police security was provided to all staff members. After I was informed that the school management was not allowing the supervisory staff to enter the centre, I personally went to the school with the police and the exam was conducted,” said Baljit Singh Brar, District Education Officer (DEO), Faridkot. Keeping in view their apprehensions of being assaulted at the exam centre, the matter was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP and they were requested to provide police protection to the staff, said the DEO. The reason for this ‘hostile’ behaviour of the school management was that after the PSEB chairman ordered that the supervisory staff be changed, the school director was not happy did not allow them entry to the exam centre, said the DEO. “But this action of the school management was unwarranted, so we took police help,” he said. Jagdish Rai Sharma, director of SD Public School, denied the allegations, saying there was no threat to the supervisory staff at the exam centre in the school. “The supervisory staff was changed just to harass us. Otherwise, there was no reason for this change,” he said. To disturb the students at the exam centre, one after another, many flying squads kept raiding the exam centre at the SD Public School just to harass and disturb the students, said Jagdish Rai Sharma. “We have already approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court for this action on the part of the education department,” he said. However, rubbishing the allegations, DEO, Baljit Singh Brar said Jagdish Rai Sharma was so annoyed with him for the change of supervisory staff that he even filed a complaint with the police against him. |

Railway Users Consultative Committee reconstituted
Abohar, March 13 He had long back been a member of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee. Confirming this, a letter received from Tripti Guha, Deputy General Manager-cum-Secretary of the ZRUCC, said its object is to provide opportunities for frequent consultation between the Railways and the users on matters relating to and including improvement in the services provided by the Railways. Speaking to this correspondent over the phone from Haridwar Goyal said his priority would be to get the Abohar-Fazilka rail link operational, as it had not been included even in the list of 26 new trains likely to be introduced. The then Railways Minister Mamata Bannerjee had in her budget speech last year, promised to run a passenger train on this long awaited rail link but no staff has so far been arranged. The authorities had listed the Bathinda-Abohar-Fazilka passenger train while announcing the time-table six months back but nothing happened.
