Big reshuffle in police dept
Ludhiana, March 13
A day before the swearing-in ceremony of the SAD-BJP government at Chappar Chiri, a major reshuffle took place in the police department of the city here today, as 20 policemen, including inspector-level officers, were transferred with immediate effect.

MC ready with budget of Rs 741 cr
Ludhiana, March 13
The state’s largest civic body, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, has prepared its budget for the year 2012-13. This time, the MC has prepared proposed a budget of Rs 741.25 crore, which is Rs 60.19 less than that prepared last year.

Hero Cycles at Walmart soon

Hero Cycles will be available at the Walmart stores across the globe. According to the sources, Hero Cycles has clinched an agreement with Walmart to supply bicycles across the world while it has already commenced supplies to Walmart cash-and-carry stores in India.

Snatching a full-time profession for them
Ludhiana, March 13
The four snatchers nabbed by the Haibowal police last evening have raised concerns among the police department. The accused, Manpreet Singh, Amarpreet Singh, Vinod Kumar and Anand Singh, all residents of the Haibowal area, who were nabbed by the police from the Balloke area, are not drug addicts.

Rottweiler owner booked
Ludhiana, March 13
Nearly 10 days after a ferocious Rottweiler dog attacked a woman and her dog at BRS Nagar in H Block here, the city police today booked the dog owner for the incident. The victim, Dr Amanvir Kaur, a known dog lover of the city, was walking back from the park when the Rottweiler, owned by Ramesh Puri of BRS Nagar, attacked her.

Low-floored buses await nod
Ludhiana, March 13
A fleet of 10 low-floored non-AC buses for the city bus service project has reached the city and is awaiting clearance from the state transport department. Once this paperwork is completed and the buses get a green light from the department, the buses would start plying on roads.

‘Need to widen, improve Railway network’
The current rail network in India is not adequate compared to the burgeoning rail freight business. The Railways need to invest in easing pressure on the highly saturated routes, like the coal and iron-ore belts, besides trunk routes to create more line capacity.

SAD in saddle, people hope for early completion of projects

A community hall being run by the local municipal council has become a safe haven for tipplers, drug addicts, gamblers and anti-social elements. The hall, which has been names after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, has been of little use to common man due to the indifferent attitude of the council.

4 hurt as canter, tempo collide

Four persons, including two drivers and two cleaners, sustained injuries after a tempo rammed into a canter (UP 11 M8281) parked near a local bus stand on the National Highway Number 1 today morning.

18 samples collected
Ludhiana, March 13
The Health Department of the district today collected about 18 samples of eatables from department stores located at Mohar Singh Nagar and Hargobind Singh Nagar. Manoj Khosla, Food Safety Officer, Health Department, said, “We collected two samples of namkeen, moong dal, arhar, rice, sugar, turmeric powder, jeera, rajmah, chana dal, dhania and two samples of milk, cream, moong sabut, black gram and kabuli chana”.

Dept to crack whip on erring LPG agencies

The Food and Civil Supplies Department will deal sternly with gas agencies selling products other than LPG cylinders. Director, Food and Civil Supplies, HS Sidhu, who met representative of oil companies and distributors, said, “ We have come to know that a few oil companies were asking their distributors to sell products other than LPG.

Kapil Sibal’s advice to students

The Class XI students (of the CBSE schools) who cannot afford the school fee can write to Union Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal to seek help from him. A congratulatory letter written by the minister to the first batch (2010-2011) that completed Class X under the new Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme says this.

Block officers seek better remuneration
Ludhiana, March 13
While the Assembly elections are over in Punjab, all is now set for the councillors’ poll in the Municipal Corporation scheduled for July-August. But the Block Level Officers (BLOs) in the district feel as their services will again be hired by the authorities, the state government must provide them increased remuneration since they have to perform multiple tasks.

Factory worker found dead
Ludhiana, March 13 
A 30-year-old factory employee was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a unit near Noorwala Road in the Meharban area here today. The incident came to light here this morning when Aarti, wife of the victim, identified as Chander, found her husband lying unconscious and informed the factory owner.
