SAD (Badal) submits memo against attack in gurdwara
New Delhi, March 5 Sikhs from all parts of Delhi gathered at the SAD Badal office in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj this morning to take out a procession to the residence of union home minister P Chidambaram. The procession started about 12.30 pm, but was stopped by the police at Pandit Pant Marg and the protestors demonstrated there for about half an hour. Later, a delegation of the party led by Delhi unit chief of the SAD (Badal) Manjit Singh (GK) submitted a memorandum to the home minister. Chidambaram met the delegation personally and assured them of taking up the issue, Manjit said. The memorandum said general secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Harvinder Singh Sarna and his followers with the support of the police attacked an unarmed sangat with bricks, glass, stones and swords and the police used tear gas shells inside the Gurdwara sahib. It was a pre-planned conspiracy of the Sarna brothers who knew that the Sikh Sangat would never tolerate the renaming of the hospital as "Guru Harkishan BLK." The memorandum further said, "The hospital building was constructed by Baba Harban Singh ji Kar Sewa Wale with the support of Sikh Sangat, but Sarna brothers wrongfully handed over the control initially to the Manipal group and thereafter to the B L Kapoor Hospital on a lease of 30 years and Harvinder Singh Sarna went there with their associates to hand over the possession to the leasee." However, DSGMC president Paramjeet Singh Sarna said general secretary of the gurdwara committee had nothing to do with the brick and bottle pelting. He had gone to the gurdwara for a religious ritual and had to go to the hospital later. |
