Shamsher Homestay at Jangpura in New Delhi where the incident happened

New Delhi, March 4
After refusing for marriage, a 22-year-old woman, Paimana, a US national of Afghan origin, was stabbed to death by her fiancée in Shamsher Stay Home in Jangpura, south-east Delhi, last night.

The culprit, Omid Milad, was arrested today from the IGI airport where he had gone to board a flight for his native country, the police said.

The police received a call at 11.45 last night about murder of a woman in room No. 105 at Shamsher Home Stay Guest House in Jangpura.

When the police reached, it found that the woman was lying in the pool of blood and a knife was inside the woman's stomach.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (south-east) Ajay Chaudhary, with the spot scene it seemed that there was struggle marks and disturbance of articles in the room. A friend of the deceased, who was present on the spot, identified the deceased as Paimana, daughter of late Khanger, resident of 3/43, IInd floor, Jangpura Extension.

The friend said that Paimana's maternal aunt Nuriya was living with them. Paimana's engagement was solemnised with Omid Milad of Afghanistan. She was not happy with the engagement.

Omid was studying in Russia. Paimana came to Delhi from America about eight days ago and was staying with Nuriya.

About nine days ago Omid had also come and Nuriya, along with Paimana, had gone to receive Omid at the airport.

After staying with them for a day, he shifted at Shamsher Home Stay. Paimana had been going to meet Omid in the guest house. There had been quarrel between the two over the marriage as Paimana was not interested in Omid.

Help of a maulvi was also sought to finalise the marriage but Paimana did not agree. This hurt Omid who said that Paimana broke his heart.

They had gone to Amar Colony Market and came back at 8 pm. At 10.10 pm they left for the guest house. Paimana went with him to take bath in the guest house.

Paimana's friend said that around 11.30 pm she went to Shamsher Home Stay and found Paimana lying dead on the floor. A blood-stained knife was found inside her stomach.

On the basis of her statement, a murder case was registered and the investigation was taken.

The suspect was a student of Russian Language College, Saint Peters Burg in Russia.

All the immigration posts were informed about the incident and a police team was deputed at the IGI airport in Delhi also.

High nursery fees give parents hiccups
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 4
The soaring fees of getting their tiny tots admitted to nursery classes is giving hiccups to parents with schools asking for admission charges ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.

The educationists have pointed out that fees in top schools are going to leave a big hole in parents' pockets as according to the fees structure available on the websites of some schools, one has to pay Rs 95,220 towards tuition fees of a year, Rs 14,283 as development charges and Rs 14,283 as annual charges, besides other minor charges.

Parents are complaining of hefty donation amounts being asked by the school authority in lieu of giving admission to their children. Sumit Vohra, founder of the website admissionsnursery.com, said such complaints were a regular feature on his forum. "A minute look at our website could show you hundreds of such donation-related complaints posted by distraught parents this year," Vohra said.

Some schools are even demanding Rs 3 to Rs 4 lakh to ensure a child's admission under their "highly-manipulative" management quota, parents and experts allege.

"We have lost all hopes of our son's admission as the schools where he was shortlisted have asked us more than Rs 1 lakh to secure our child's name in the final list," said Arti Sharma, a south Delhi resident.

Unhappy with the Directorate of Education (DoE) for not taking adequate steps to prevent such corruption, parents are now venting their anger on the online forum.

Parents have alleged how some schools have turned nursery admission into a money-minting business.

Ranjit Arora, a resident of Pitampura, who had applied to more than 20 schools, also has a similar story. "My son didn't get selected in any school. Surprisingly, however, a few good schools offered my child a nursery seat but for a hefty amount," Arora said.

"I have applied to more than 10 schools, but none of them have selected my child. And where he was shortlisted, they are asking so much money which I cannot afford. His chances of getting admission this year looks very slim," added Sharma.

Parents have complained that some schools have converted their general seats into paid seats under the highly-manipulative management quota which is disturbing for them.

According to experts, the nursery season also saw two disturbing trends such as advance booking and the policy of first-come-first-serve. Ishwar Natrajan, a resident of Anand Vihar, said, "I am a victim of the first-come-first-serve policy that spoilt my daughter's chances of getting admission in a neighbourhood school of which I am an alumnus.

AIIMS to have display board for status of emergency patients
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 4
The All India Institute of Delhi (AIIMS) is all set to become more high-tech, giving more convenience to hundreds of patients and relatives visiting the hospital daily.

The hospital is looking forward to install an emergency display information system (EDIS), an electronic patient status board at the casualty centre that will display detailed information about the patients' condition. It will also show the clinical plans and disposition status of the patients along with the doctors attending to them, status of their hospital stay, health status and their expected care plans, among other things.

The initiative will be a major breakthrough in dealing with the alleged problem of non-coordination and miss-communication between doctors and patients' relatives in the emergency departments.

The proposal of EDIS is a brainchild of the chief of the trauma centre
Dr M C Misra and associate professor of neurosurgery Dr Deepak Agrawal, who conceived the idea after doctors felt that there was a lack of communication between doctors and patients.

"The whole idea behind it is to streamline the patient care system in the emergency department. There is a lot of chaos in an emergency situation. There are times when we have to attend 25 to 50 patients in an emergency situation. This display system is similar to the facility at the airports that display information related to flights," Agrawal said.

"Once the information is on the display screen, relatives and attendants know the status of the patients at the trauma centre. Once they see the EDIS, doctors on shift duties can find out which patient is waiting for them and what next action needs to be done," he said.

Patient details are upgraded by a dedicated team of nurses and the software for the EDIS facility has been linked to the registration software too.

"This will also check for complaints of negligence from relatives regarding to patient care. Suppose, a doctor has prescribed an X-ray for a patient, the EDIS will display the waiting period for the report. This facility can point out any negligence on the part of medical staff, if any," Agrawal said.

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 4
The three major markets in south Delhi, INA, Sarojini Nagar and Dilli Haat will come under better connectivity with the Delhi Metro working towards making a new station at INA under the Phase III project of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

As per the detailed project report (DPR), the interchange load of this new station will be 1,29,881 in 2016 on a daily basis. The daily footfall of the operational INA Metro station is around 37,000.

The Metro station will be unique in status as the platform will be constructed above the concourse for the first time in the Delhi Metro because of the height variation between the existing INA station and the upcoming new INA station owing to the already existing Metro tunnel at the location, said the DMRC official.

The new station which will taken as the expansion of the existing Metro station will act as a major interchange hub of south Delhi providing connectivity between Jahangirpui-HUDA City Centre and Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar Metro corridors.

The new station will come as a big relief to the residents of north, west and east Delhi localities such as Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden and Mayur Vihar along with the people residing in Sarojini Nagar and Laxmi Bai Nagar as it will help in improving the connectivity between the areas.

Especially, the students travelling between the North and South Campuses of Delhi University (DU) will be able to commute by the Metro by using INA as an interchange station, said a spokesperson for the Delhi Metro.

"The DMRC has modified the station design to adjust to new circumstances. The station will have five entry and exit points with three of them being planned for the new INA Phase III Metro station," said the spokesperson.

The operational INA station provides Metro connectivity to three major shopping attractions Sarojini Nagar, INA Market and Dilli Haat.

But law finally caught up with the 23-year-old Prem Singh, a graduate in arts, with the Delhi police tracking him in Vaishali last week following investigations into a complaint filed last year that an unknown man had booked a room in a Greater Kailash hotel by sending a mail in India TV chief Rajat Sharma's name.

The news channel had claimed that the unknown person had posed as its staffer and stayed in the hotel for three days and left the place without paying, Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (south-east), said.

During investigations, it was learnt that at the time of booking hotel room, the accused had given a copy of his driving licence, which was found to be issued at a Mumbai address. Also three SIM cards were found in the hotel room.
