The district administration has made all necessary arrangements for counting of
votes which begins at 8 am tomorrow. The first trends are expected to be out by
8.45 am. People can also log in www.eci.gov.in <http://www.eci.gov.in> for
latest updates.

Ludhiana, March 5
To maintain law and order and public peace during the counting of votes and
declaring of the results, tomorrow will be observed as a dry day. As a result,
there has been a sudden spurt in the sale of liquor today.

Anxious, yet ‘composed’ candidates keep their fingers crossed

The fate of about 139 candidates in fray from 14 constituencies, falling in
Ludhiana District, will be decided tomorrow. Despite feeling the anxiety, a

makers, florists expect brisk business
Ludhiana, March 5
With the Assembly election results being declared tomorrow, florists and
sweetmeat shops are all decked up for the celebrations. Since the demand for
both sweets and flowers will see a sudden spurt, shopkeepers are fully geared up
to tackle the same. Sweets, especially laddoos, will be in great demand.

Civic body postpones anti-encroachment drive

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has postponed its much-hyped demolition
drive, which it was to start from today. Ever since the MC announced the drive,
it was under pressure from several quarters not to go ahead with it.

Bains brothers object to raid on furnace unit
Ludhiana, March 5
The enforcement wing of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today
conducted a raid on the furnace unit of the Bains brothers -- Simarjit Singh,
who was expelled from the SAD and contested the Assembly elections as an
Independent candidate, and Balwinder Singh, member of the Shiromani Gurudwara
Parbandhak Committee.
Attempt to rob bank in high-security zone
Ludhiana, March 5
It seems that criminals and thieves have no fear of the police. In a fresh
incident, thieves struck at the SBI branch located near Police Commissioner
Ishwar Chander’s office in the mini secretariat. Though the thieves failed to lay their hands on cash or any valuables, the incident has caused the police major embarrassment as it took place in a high-security zone.

Night temp rises in city

Irked, Doggie Lane halts work
Ludhiana, March 5
Perturbed at the “apathetic” attitude of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, Himmat
Grewal, owner of Doggie Lane Foundation Company, who had bagged contract for sterilizing dogs in the city, said today that the company was stopping the work as municipal officials and members of the monitoring committee failed to show up during the counting of organs.
