Jats seek reservation

Jalandhar, March 4
The Jat Sikh Welfare Sabha here today sought reservations for the Jat community in job and educational institutions. This came as a support for the Jat Sikhs of Haryana who have been protesting for the same.

“To support the Jat community of Haryana, we have formed a 21-member committee and we will also join the protest of Haryana-based Sikhs to press the government to extend reservation,” said Sucha Singh Bajwa president of the Sabha.

Singh said government should extend reservations to the said community members as majority of them are poor farmers. The reservation would ensure that children belonging to weaker section of society can easily seek admission in reputed educational institutions and get government jobs.

“If state government does not pay heed to our demand, we will hold district level protest against the government,” he added. — OC
