Bathinda, November 10
The PPCC chief Capt.Amrinder Singh would target the strongholds of the ruling Badal clan in Bathinda and Muktsar districts by addressing a series of “Punjab Bachao” rallies next week.

This time Amarinder Singh has chosen his ancestral village Mehraj in the Bathinda district for the rally on November 14. This would cover the rural areas of the Bathinda district, said Narender Bhaleria, president of the district Congress (rural).

On November 17, he would address another rally in Gidderbaha that is considered the stronghold of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the PPP chief Manpreet Singh Badal.

His rally in Bathinda on December 2 is expected to boost the party activists as the Badals were making concerted efforts to improve their position in the Bathinda town.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Harminder Singh Jassi today said that the centre’s approval for opening four new nursing colleges at Bathinda, Patiala, Sangrur and Gurdaspur would help remove shortage of nursing staff in the health institutions of the state and also provide job opportunities to the youth.

He said that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad were taking due care of development in Punjab.

He accused the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal of trying to take credit for construction of a number of flyovers and bridges that have actually come up with the grants provided by the centre.

Bathinda, November 10
Anusha Tyagi, a school girl from here, is set to become the youngest skydiver in the country on November 19 when she performs this adventure sport on completing her 16th birthday.

She will participate in the skydiving events at the Bhopal airfield to enter the Limca Book of Records.

Anusha says that she wanted to undertake skydiving at an early age but the International Aero Sports Federation has put restrictions on youngsters below the age of 16 participating in this adventure sport. She would attain the age of 16 on November 18 and sky jump a day later on November 19.

She was a student of the Kendriya Vidalaya here and recently took admission in class IX in the Air Force Bal Bharti School, New Delhi.

Her father Squadron Leader Dinesh Tyagi, posted at the Bhisiana Air Force station near here, is himself a well- known skydiver with more than 400 skydives to his credit.

She says that the thrill of adventure went deep into her mind when she was just 4 years old and she was taken for a parasailing along with her mother. It was there and then she decided to become a skydiver and explore the world of aero-sports.

“I grab every opportunity of adventure sports that comes in my way”, she says.

From early age she would accompany her father whenever he went out for any adventure sports activity. “I even sacrificed my school and studies for this purpose but what was praiseworthy was that my teachers and colleagues understood my weakness and helped me in coping up with the syllabus".

Besides taking interest in skydiving, Anusha is a good swimmer and has done river rafting and kayaking in Jammu and Kashmir. She also participated in ski competition at Gulmarg last year.

Anusha wants to join the defence service where lots of opportunities are available to explore the world of adventure while serving the nation.

Mann to disturb Advani’s yatra

Bathinda, November 10
SAD (A) chief Simranjeet Singh Mann today said that his party activists would disturb the “Rath Yatra” of the BJP leader L.K.Advani when it enters Punjab from Doomwali in Haryana on November 13.

Mann visited the villages falling along the route of Advani's yatra and urged the youth to disturb his meetings as Advani had endorsed the Operation Blue Star in the Golden Temple complex. He said that activists of the SAD(A) will disturb his yatra throughout Punjab.

He said that although Advani's yatra was aimed against corruption but some top BJP leaders and former ministers in Punjab were being questioned by the CBI in corruption cases.

Mann said that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal were lying isolated in the ruling SAD as no other leader was coming out to protect them from the personal attacks on them by the PPCC chief Capt.Amrinder Singh.

Meanwhile, the BJP leadership is mobilising its partymen to make the arrival of Advani in Punjab a grand show. — TNS

Industrial units will stay in Haryana: Hooda

Abohar, November 10
While laying to rest speculations over the shifting of Maruti Suzuki units from Gurgaon to other states, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed that the Maruti Udyog was giving final touches to its comprehensive plan for more investment in Haryana. “We are committed to safeguarding the interests of the industry,” he said.

Speaking to the media at the canal rest house in the neighbouring Sriganganagar town, Hooda said better infrastructure and environment will be ensured by his government. Haryana had taken a lead in promoting industries as well as sports resulting in improvement in per capita income besides capital investment. The state is second now in per capita income while Goa holds the top slot.

Hooda was accompanied by cabinet colleagues Randeep Singh Surjewala and Gopal Kanda as he arrived to attend the marriage of Chief Parliamentary Secretary Prahlad Gillankhera's son's marriage.

The marriage party was served refreshments at the Jakhar Fruit Farms located in village Maujgarh on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road. Former Madhya Pradesh Governor Bal Ram Jakhar was among the VIPs who blessed the newly-weds.

Speaking about his party's defeat in the Hisar by-election, Hooda said the result was not surprising since the Congress candidate had trailed at the third position in Bhajan Lal's stronghold even in the 2009 elections.
