Haridwar, November 7 Led by social activist Sanjay Chopra, the residents demanded a probe into the matter and action against the Public Works Department that has constructed the road. Initially, Arya tried to escape by blaming the PWD but when the residents insisted for action he phoned the Executive Engineer of the PWD and sought a clarification on the poor shape of the road. It was only after getting assurance from Arya that he will look into the matter seriously, the residents let him go. The residents also complained that on numerous occasions, the roads are dug up by the workers of various government departments were not refilled properly. “Be it the roads constructed ahead of the Maha Kumbh or the recarpeted roads, substandard material has been used. If the public takes to the roads and protests like this one, then surely the government departments and the other nodal agencies can’t fool us,” said Chopra. |

Uttarakhand, addressed the gathering. He said, “Public Services is one of the most dignified professions. The officials of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission have always proven their mettle in building up the state.” “Getting selected in the Public Service Commission is a tough job. A large number of forms of the applying candidates get rejected due to incomplete information provided by them. One must carefully fill the application form,” he added. He also encouraged the students to join the commission and serve the nation with full dedication and integrity. |

Id celebrated with fervour
Dehradun, November 7 More than 10,000 devotees offered special morning prayers at the Idgah in the city. Special Id prayers were also held at the Dhamawala, Dharamapur, EC Road, Karanpur, Morewala, Subasnagar and Lakhibagh mosques and at the Ajabpurkalan and Kishen Nagar madarsas as well. Muslims sacrificed goats and distributed meat among relatives, friends and the poor. The revelers also thronged the markets to buy new clothes, gifts and sweets. Meanwhile, the administration had made elaborate arrangements for the festivals. Traffic was diverted from roads leading to prominent mosques. The traffic on the Chakrata road and the Dehradun-Delhi highway was diverted to other routes to facilitate the movement of the devotees. Students and staff of the RIMC also celebrated the festival and held a function at the college mosque. A Moulvi (priest) from a nearby mosque was also invited to grace the occasion. He briefed the cadets about the importance of the day. He also appreciated the unity and the secularism followed at the RIMC. The chief guest on the function was KS Ahlawat, Vice Principal, RIMC. In his speech, he elaborated on the teachings of Islam. HARIDWAR: Id-ul-Zuha was celebrated with gaiety in Haridwar today Also known as Bakr-e-Id, the festival was marked by morning prayers at mosques. At Jama Masjid in Jwalapur, hundreds of devotees attended the morning namaz. Later, the sacrificing ritual of goat was performed. Arrangements were put in place by the district administration at all mosques situated in Jwalapur, BHEL and Bahadrabad. Haridwar Parliamentarian Harish Rawat wished the people on the occasion. NAINITAL: The festival of Id-ul-Zuha was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour across Kumaon on Tuesday. Members of the Muslim community gathered at different mosques to offer the prayers early in the morning. Thereafter, they exchanged greetings with friends and relatives. This was followed by the sacrificing of goats and lambs. In Nainital, namaz was held in the field of the Flats Grounds where a large number of Muslims and tourists from the community offered prayers. |
ITBP celebrates Raising Day
Mussoorie, November 7 IG and Director of the ITBP Academy KS Bajwa, while extending his greetings on the occasion, said the ITBP was established in 1962 after the Chinese aggression and since its inception, it had played a vital role in safeguarding the highest and toughest borders stretching from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Dehradun, November 7 Kapil Sharma, a ghazal singer, said: “ I have participated in many events in Delhi but Dehradun is special. The audience here is very loving.” The audience enjoyed all performances. Vandana Srivastava, a music teacher, sang some memorable duets and solo numbers evoking the memories of Jagjit Singh and his wife Chitra that include “Kal chaudhveen ki raat thee”and “Woh kagaz ki kashti”. “Life Express and its team of musicians and organisers deserve kudos for bringing back Jagjit and his music, even if for this short and unforgettable evening,” she added. |
RIMC cadets shine in athletics meet
Dehradun, November 7 As many as 34 cadets represented the team where they won divisions B, C and D of the respective events held. Cadet Neeraj Maurya won the title of the best athlete in Division B. The RIMC won a total of 40 medals - 14 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze. The RIMC also won the award for the best marching contingent. Col PK Kumaria, Commandant, RIMC, was the chief guest on the event He said: “Living up to the ethos and rich tradition of excellence that the RIMC has always stood for, cadets have consistently worked hard for keeping the flag high. Their hard work has made them overall champions in the event this year.” He congratulated the cadets for their excellent performance. |

Dehradun, November 7 With 15.5 points, DAV PG College remained on top in the match. The second position was jointly bagged by Birla Campus (Srinagar) and DBS PG College with 10 points while Government College (Uttarkashi) was declared the third with 7.5 points. |
