Woman, child found dead in Sukhna
Chandigarh, November 5
In a heart-rending incident, the bodies of a woman with her two-year-old son, squeezed tightly in her arms, were retrieved from the Sukhna Lake here this morning. The bodies were stuck in a marshy growth near the regulator end of the lake, suggesting that the woman jumped to her death with the child.

Dengue claims its first victim in city
Chandigarh, November 5
The deadly dengue fever claimed first life in the city today with 11-year-old Abhinav, a resident of Dhanas, falling prey to the disease following complications arising out of it. Though a doctor at the paediatrics department of the PGI confirmed it to be a “dengue” death, UT health officials claimed that they had no information in this regard.

Haryana to resend panel, but with ACRs

Panic as body goes missing
Panchkula, November 5
Panic prevailed at General Hospital, Sector 6, today when a body of baby went missing. The body was kept on a stretcher and was to be taken for post mortem examination when doctors found it missing. The police was informed and it was revealed that victim’s uncle had taken the body without informing the authorities.

A Hero Honda motorcycle was found abandoned on the staff road in the military area here today, causing panic among people in the area. According to sources, Army personnel reported to the police that the motorcycle was lying abandoned near a barricade and it might contain some explosives.

Six booked in assault case

The local police has booked six persons for assaulting an employee of the revenue department at Jodhpur village. The victim, Karan Singh, had gone to the village for identifying some disputed land when the assailants started assaulting him.

Cyclist hit by unidentified vehicle, dead

A 21-year-old cyclist died after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Nabha Sahib Gurdwara on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Hallomajra, Chandigarh.

Cop thrashed in Sector 45

In a fourth incident of its kind within the last fortnight, a policeman was thrashed by unidentified assailants in Sector 45 late last night. The youths came in a Scorpio car and fled after bashing him up.

Punjab restrict Jharkhand to 246
