High Court notice to Mussoorie MC chief
Mussoorie, October 22 Vinod Thapliyal, through the PIL, had accused Uniyal of flouting all guidelines while awarding tenders worth several lakhs to his brother-in-law. In the PIL, the MC has also been accused of embezzlement and gross violation of the existing laws thus leading to rampant corruption. He said the state Lokayukta had also ordered an investigation against the charges of corruption, but the state government did not take any action, forcing him to move court. He demanded that a CBI inquiry be ordered so that people of Mussoorie could know the reality. After hearing the matter, the court has issued a notice to the Municipal Council President and asked him to appear in the court in person and submit his reply by November 21. However, Uniyal has refuted the allegations saying this was being done just to malign his image. At a hurriedly called press conference, the MC chief alleged that certain people were hell-bent on maligning his image due to vested political interests. On the issue of the Clock Tower tender process and other allegations of irregularities against him, Uniyal said everything was done in a transparent manner and in accordance with the guidelines. He said as all such proposals had been unanimously passed in the MC Board so there was no question of any irregularity. On the issue of awarding tenders to his brother-in-law and providing benefits to him by making the misuse of his power, Uniyal said that all decisions had been taken according to the norms of the council. To a query that some ward members of the board have also raised their voice against his activities, he said this was being done to malign his image as he was also one of the probable candidates for the Mussoorie assembly segment. |
