Special team formed to arrest accused postmaster

The police has registered a case against the erring postmaster Rakesh Kumar under Sections 409, 420, 465/67/68/71 of the IPC for misappropriating public money to the tune of over Rs 3 crore, which they had invested in the post-office savings schemes through him.

45 new dengue cases detected
Bathinda, October 21
The Mac Elisa test (a confirmatory test for dengue) was conducted on 130 blood samples of suspected dengue cases at the Blood Bank of the Civil Hospital here today. District Health Officer Dr Raghubir Singh Randhawa said here this evening that out of the 130 tests, as many as 45 patients had been tested positive for dengue.

A Commemoration Day parade was held at the Police Lines in Ferozepur to pay tributes to the real life heroes of the Punjab Police, who attained martyrdom while discharging their duty. The next of kin the martyrs were honoured on the occasion. The function was presided over by the District and Sessions Judge Rekha Mittal.

SSP Surjit Singh said in all, 59 officials including all ranks belonging to the Ferozepur district have attained martyrdom in the line of duty. He added that the police department would always remain indebted to their families and extend all possible support to them whenever sought.

DPS Kharbanda (ADC), Gurmeet Singh, SP, Headquarters, Jatinder Singh, SP (Detective) besides other officials and member of the martyrs' family were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Fazilka SSP RK Sharda and other police officials paid homage to the martyrs at the local police station (Sadar) on the Commemoration Day, today.

The SSP disclosed that 48 officials in Punjab and seven in the districts of Ferozepur and Fazilka have sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country since October 2010.

Sharda along with other police officials, Varinder Singh Brar, SP, Abohar, Balbir Singh, SP (H) Fazilka, Karamjit Singh, DSP, Fazilka, Harinder Singh, DSP, Abohar, Mohinder Singh, DSP, Balluana, Jagatpreet Singh, DSP, Jalalabad, honoured the kith and kin of the police officials by presenting them blankets.

Special team formed to arrest accused postmaster

Ferozepur, October 21
The police has registered a case against the erring postmaster Rakesh Kumar under Sections 409, 420, 465/67/68/71 of the IPC for misappropriating public money to the tune of over Rs 3 crore, which they had invested in the post-office savings schemes through him.

An FIR was registered today following a formal complaint lodged by the Assistant Superintendent of Posts KP Meena.

Sources in the EOW wing of the police disclosed that besides befooling hundreds of villagers, Rakesh had duped some of his close relatives too.

Sources said the accused allegedly invested huge lumps of money in a private finance company, which had promised to multiply the amount. However, the company had fled with the money and closed its operations.

Now, following registration of the case, the police is trying to find out the whereabouts of Rakesh.

A special team has been set up for the purpose. Meanwhile, in another development, the enraged villagers infuriated over the loss of their hard-earned money, went to Rakesh’s house at village Khai Pheme Ke. The entire house was ransacked.

Cong defeat in Hisar is a trailer: Harsimrat

Member Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal today described drubbing of the Congress in Hisar Lok Sabha by-election a trailer as people of Punjab were waiting for the opportunity to teach the Congress a similar lesson in the state.

Addressing a series of public gatherings during her day-long Sangat Darshan in various localities of Bathinda, she said that people of the country were fed up of corruption and unprecedented inflation unleashed under the Congress-led UPA government.

Describing the results of the recent by-elections in the four states where the Congress stands nowhere as an indication for complete pack up of the Congress in the coming assembly elections in five states next year.

She said that witch hunting of team Anna members shows the desperation of UPA regime. Earlier, Harsimrat distributed gymnasium equipment for each of the 50 wards along with grants for various development works. She also listened to the problems of people and visited Dengue affected areas. She directed the health and local bodies authorities to take necessary action. Prominent amongst others were Sarup Chand Singla, Mayor Baljit Singh Birbehman, besides senior civil and police officials.

District Health Officer Dr Raghubir Singh Randhawa said here this evening that out of the 130 tests, as many as 45 patients had been tested positive for dengue.

However, as many as 373 dengue cases were detected in the district till yesterday, of which 319 were from the Bathinda city alone while the remaining cases were from Talwandi Sabo area (33), Goniana (8), Sangat (7), Bhagta (3), Nathana (2) and Ballianwali (1). — TNS
