Aviation company duped of lakhs

The city police has booked two men for duping an aviation company of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of procuring an aircraft parking permit at the Guru Ram Das International Airport, Amritsar, from the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Safai sewaks’ meeting with CM on Oct 31
Ludhiana, October 21
The meeting of the Safai Karamchari Sangharsh Morcha Punjab with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, local bodies minister Tikshan Sud and other officials in Chandigarh this evening did not yield any result. The meeting has been put off to October 31.

13 samples fail; cases pending in court

In October last year, the district health department had collected as many as 98 samples of various eatables from across the city and sent them to a laboratory for testing.

Strike by junior engineers disrupts work
Ludhiana, October 21
A statewide strike by junior engineers (JEs) of more than a dozen government departments today had an adverse impact on the routine work. The junior engineers working in the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana Improvement Trust, Punjab Mandi Board, public works department, public health department, Punjab water supply and sewerage board, irrigation, canal lining department and draftsmen in the engineering wings of these departments, were away to Chandigarh to participate in a rally in support of their demands.

‘Dhiyan Da Mela’ a hit with students

Girls dance with artistes from Haryana on the opening day of ‘Mela Dhiyan Da’ at Government College for Women in Ludhiana. "Dhiyan Da Mela" was inaugurated by Upinderjeet Kaur, Punjab Finance Minister, here today. A large presence of colleges and school girls marked the occasion. Authorities displayed huge boards to invite the housewives and public. But a very few women attended the mela. Kashmiri dance by Kasmiri artistes and Harianvi drum players caught the attention of the Punjabi crowd.

Students showcase painting abilities
Ludhiana, October 21
An inter-house painting competition was organised at Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, wherein 88 students participated. This contest was a part of the Diwali celebrations which will continue up to October 25. The main theme was 'Say No to Crackers'. Along with the best wishes for Diwali the students sent out a loud and clear message to boycott crackers and be eco friendly.

Three take away car at pistolpoint
Ludhiana, October 21
Three armed men snatched a Maruti Swift car from a city resident at pistolpoint near Sukhdev Avenue at Threeke village here this morning. This incident took place at around 5.30 am when Chand Parkash, a poultry farm owner, returned home after dropping his family at the railway station.
