Jalandhar, October 18
High drama was witnessed at a local hospital after the family members of an elderly woman blamed the hospital staff of dereliction in duty. The woman was discharged from the hospital this morning.

Family members of the elderly woman, Satya Devi, entered into a fight with the hospital authorities as they (hospital authorities) reportedly refused to entertain their case again after Satya Devi was discharged from the hospital this morning. The issue came to an end only when Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Naresh Kumar Dogra intervened in the matter.

Satya Devi was admitted to the ICU of the hospital with some breathing problem some days ago. Last night, when she went to bathroom, she slipped and as a result of which her hip joint got fractured.

Satya Devi’s family alleged that after falling in the bathroom, she kept crying for help from the hospital staff, but none came forward. The family members claimed that this morning when Satya Devi reached home, she was not able to stand on her feet.

The family members of Satya Devi got furious and approached the hospital, but the latter reportedly did not pay any heed to them. The doctors at the hospital told the woman’s family to shift her to some other hospital, as she was not well.

The Managing Director of the hospital, Dr S.K. Sharma, was not available for comments. However, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mukesh, said, “All allegations are baseless.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Naresh Kumar Dogra said, “After we intervened in the matter both the parties entered into a compromise. The hospital staff agreed to admit the patient again.”

No case against me, says Manoranjan Kalia
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, October 18
Responding to a news report published in these columns today, former BJP minister Manoranjan Kalia on Tuesday pointed out that contrary to the report, there was no CBI case against him.

He acknowledged that the Central Bureau of Investigation had indeed questioned him “ in some case” but he vigorously denied any inquiry against him by the CBI.

The central agency, he claimed, had not registered any case against him. The report, “ War for party ticket hots up in Congress, BJP”, had stated that Kalia had emerged as a strong contender for the Jalandhar (Central) seat in the Assembly and had the backing of senior BJP central leaders.

His opponents in the party, the report stated, were trying to scuttle his chances by citing the ‘corruption case’ against him.
