DEHRADUN Man commits suicide: A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in the Mohakampur area on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Jitender Singh Negi. The reason behind the extreme step is yet to be known. One arrested with stolen cellphones: The police on Tuesday arrested a mobile thief and seized recharge coupons and nine cellphones from his possession. Tanuj Semwal (21) had allegedly stolen these cellphones from a shop on August 25. Roller skating competition: Students of Delhi Public School, Dehradun, have won six medals in the 13th Inter-school Roller Skating Competition organised by the Uttarakhand Roller Skating Society. Yash Saini and Vartika Negi won gold medals in under-12 and under-14 categories, respectively. Bronze medals were won by Shantanu Joshi, Aditya Prakash and Ajay Gusat (under-12) and Viksit Sehgal in the under-10 category. Kumaon Briefs Youth killed in mishap in Haldwani:A youth was killed when his motorcycle rammed into a tree. The accident took place in the Gaula Par area of Haldwani on Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified Ved Prakash (19) of the Talli Bamauri area of Haldwani. Two arrested for chain snatching:The Haldwani police and personnel of a special operations group, claim to have arrested two youths involved in chain-snatchings incidents in the town. Arshad and Mohammad Sadiq were arrested from the Chambalpur area of Damuadunga locality after police personnel found their activities to be suspicious. A gold chain and two country-made pistols have been seized from their possession. The duo also confessed that they had allegedly snatched a chain of a teacher in the Do-Nahariya area on September 16. Both accused are residents of Uttar Pradesh. Drive to streamline traffic launched:The Bageshwar police has launched a drive to streamline traffic in the town. With the festival of Divali nearing, the police has constituted teams to impose fine on those shopkeepers and residents who dump their material on the roads causing problems to both vehicle drivers and pedestrians. At the same time, those flouting traffic norms are also being issued challans. The police has made it clear that those found violating the norms would be strictly dealt with.
