Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 14
With the efforts of the Union urban development ministry, the government has decided to extend the Metro line till Bahadurgarh in Haryana during its third phase that is to be completed by 2016.

A senior official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the Mundka Metro line would be extended to Bahadurgarh.

Besides, the Metro line of Najafgarh and Shiva Vihar are also part of the third phase project.

The empowered group of ministers on the mass rapid transit system has approved the Phase-III at a length of 103.50 km with four corridors which would be implemented at a cost of Rs 35,242 crore with 40 per cent funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency.

This decision was taken in a meeting held recently that was chaired by urban development minister Kamal Nath. The Delhi Metro has already prepared detailed project reports for connecting Dwarka with Najafgarh and Mundka with Bahadurgarh in Haryana.

An official of the DMRC said the Dwarka-Najafgarh corridor had been proposed to have four stations at a length of 5.5 km and the Mundka-Bahadurgarh line would have six stations at a length of 11 km. The three corridors - Yamuna Vihar-Shiv Vihar, extension of Mundka line to Bahadurgarh and Dwarka-Najafgarh - would be brought before the empowered group of ministers as a supplementary item for approval to be included in Phase-III.
