Sec-34 immigration firm booked for fraud

Tightening its noose around “immigration companies” cheating people on the pretext of sending them abroad, the local police on Sunday registered a case against Scotch Education & Immigration Service, based in the Sector 34, following a complaint lodged by a Kharar resident claiming the firm duped him of Rs 2.3 lakh.

RWAs get students’ backing

Students residing in various sectors have started joining the section of resident welfare associations (RWAs) against the estate office for issuing notices to landlords without verifying if they have rented their premises to tenants or paying guests (PGs). Students in Sectors 15, 22 and 35, worried over the attitude of the administration, have written to RWAs, offering their support.

255 issued notices for illegally occupying railways’ land
Zirakpur (Mohali), August 14
The railway authorities had issued 255 notices to encroachers who had encroached upon railway’s land at Dhakoli village. An official of the railway department said the encroachers had been told to appear before the railway authorities before August 27 to give their point of view on the issue. The official said if the encroacher failed to visit the station, strict action would be taken against them.

Duplicate Usha, Bajaj stickers seized

A case under Section 62 of the Copyright Act has been registered against Harpreet of Mohali for selling duplicate Usha and Bajaj stickers. The accused was arrested from Burail and later released on bail.

Two incidents of theft took place on Friday night. Balwan Singh Khokhar of Sector 7 reported that someone stole household articles after breaking the lock of his house. An estimate was yet to be made. Sangeeta of Sector 23 reported that someone stole her bag, containing gold jewellery, two mobile phones, an ATM card, a cheque book and a driving licence, from her residence. — TNS

A incident of snatching in broad daylight was reported at Sector 41 here today. According to the police, Pushpa of Sector 38 complained that two unidentified motorcycle-borne youths sped away after snatching two gold earrings of hers.

CL Champs, Panchkula, and Saupin’s School won their respective matches during the ongoing first Monsoon Cup Cricket (U-15) Tournament being held at BTS School here.
In the first match, CL Champs defeated AKISPS-41 by 45 runs. Batting first, the winners scored a total of 109 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Mayank contributed 30 runs to the team’s total, while for AKSIPS, Akash took 2 for 24. Chasing the target, AKSIPS were bundled out on the total of 64 runs. Ghanshayam topped the team’s score chart with his 15-run contribution. For CL Champs, Gurdeep grabbed 3 for 10.
