Mohali gets six ambulances
Zirakpur, July 22 The development is significant as the district witnesses a large number of roads accidents on the highways. Now the residents will get access to free of cost ambulance service in case of any emergency, especially the accident victims, in the district. Divulging the information, Kuldeep Singh, cluster leader of Mohali, stated that the vehicles had been provided by the National Rural Health Mission. These vehicles have been equipped with the GPS system and a mini-ICU, he added. He said in Mohali, the ambulance vehicles have been stationed at Civil Hospital Phase 6, Zirakpur Police station, Dera Bassi Civil Hospital, Lalru community health centre (CHCs), Kharar Civil Hospital and Boothgarh community health centre. He said the ambulances will be stationed 24 hours at their desired places and two EMT doctors along with drivers will work in two shifts. Explaining as to how the system works, Kuldeep Singh said in any emergency case, a caller would make a call on 108, a toll-free phone number, to avail the facility of free ambulance service. He said the call would be taken by the call centre in Amritsar where the entire details would be jotted down. Then, the location of ambulance will be tracked down through the GPS system and the ambulance will be sent to the spot, he added. |

2 bogies of goods train derail
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 22 Station house officer (SHO) Krishan Kumar Bhardwaj of the Sirhind railway police station said the incident took place at around 1 pm when a goods train was shunting. An engine moved the bogies backward but it crossed the stipulated section of tracks and went off track due to some technical error, said the SHO. |
Co-accused in builder suicide case denied bail
Panchkula, July 22 Additional district & sessions judge Kanchan Mahi rejected Thukral’s application after receiving the reply of the local police in which the latter maintained bail to the suspect at this stage of investigation would hamper its investigations. On July 12 the police had filed an FIR against Goyal, Thukral, Anil Bansal and Ashok Kondal under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code for abetting the suicide. This followed recovery of the body of Ramesh Gupta, a resident of Sector 10, from a canal in Rajpura the same day. A Sector 10 resident, Shiv Kumar Gupta, had earlier alleged his brother Ramesh was depressed after Goyal did not pay him the Rs 2 crore incurred in constructing two colleges of the Surya group of institutes in Punjab. In his complaint, lodged on July 9, he had further claimed his brother had filed several complaints against Goyal to the Punjab police for recovery of his payment but to no avail. On July 12 the cops received information about a body of a man found from a canal in Rajpura and later found it was that of Ramesh Gupta. |

Accused denied anticipatory bail

Panchkula, July 22 The CBI had informed the court that the accused had entered into a criminal conspiracy with the other accused, Dr Amit Musale and Dr Sujay Sonawane, including main accused Gaurav Shalin, for managing admission in the PGI for MD/MS course in 2009. He had himself not appeared in the examination but an impersonator was arranged by Gaurav Shalin and other accused for appearing in the entrance examination on behalf of Patel. On September 28, 2010, the anti-corruption branch of the CBI had arrested two junior resident doctors of the PGI, Dr Amit Musale and Dr Sujay Sonawane, who allegedly secured admission by paying hefty sums to touts and had cleared the entrance exam with the help of impersonators. According to the CBI, Gaurav Shalin had got admitted Dr Amit Musale in MD pharmacology and Dr Sujay Sonawane in MD paediatrics in the PGIMER, Chandigarh, by using unknown persons to impersonate the duo in the entrance examination. |

FIR against bakery owner
Chandigarh, July 22 During the raid, it was found that the bakery owner was using PDS kerosene illegally without obtaining license from the competent authority. Besides, 40 quintals of edible oil was stored at the bakery, which violates the Chandigarh Food Articles (Licensing and Control) Order, 1991. Eatables were being prepared in unhygienic conditions and there was no cross ventilation and no fire fighting arrangement. It was also noticed that three child labourers were employed in the bakery. Food samples taken from the bakery have been handed over to the UT Health Department for further action. |

Hotelier kidnapped, set afire, critical
Panchkula, July 22 He reportedly jumped into a pond nearby to save himself. According to the police, residents of the village informed them about a youth lying there with burn injures. The victim, identified as Gaurav of Sector 26, was struggling for life at the PGI. The Pinjore SHO said an FIR for attempt-to-murder and kidnapping had been registered. The victim’s father, Pradeep Sharma, who ran a hotel at Morni, said he did not suspect anyone as they did not have enmity with anybody. |

Panchkula, July 22 Agitated over the incident, relatives of the victim and village residents blocked the Raipur Rani-Kala Amb road for nearly half an hour. Police personnel were sent from Panchkula to control the mob. |

Clerk booked for attempting to bribe PCS officer
Chandigarh, July 22 The accused, Manmohan, was suspended last year for allegedly attempting to bribe the director with Rs 50,000. An inquiry was ordered and a case was registered under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 today. The police said the accused was transferred from Ludhiana to Mohali during the investigation of a textbooks scam and he tried to the director her for revoking his transfer. The scam came to light in October 2010 when it was alleged that Manmohan had sold hundreds of books, which were supposed to be distributing among the children of SC, BC category free of cost. The police said there were four other government employees along with Manmohan Singh, who were placed under suspension in the textbook scam and departmental probe against all of them was pending.
Wanted to revoke transfer
The police said the accused was transferred from Ludhiana to Mohali during the investigation of a textbooks scam and he tried to the director her for revoking his transfer. He was suspended last year for allegedly attempting to bribe the director of welfare department with ~50,000.

2 held with truck bearing fake registration plate
Chandigarh, July 22 A case under Sections 420, 467, 471, 473, 474 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 17 police station against Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Katana Sahib village in Ludhiana, and Harwinder Singh, a resident of Ludhiana. The truck was loaded with iron rods. The police said the truck was bearing fake registration number (PB-12M-8375) whereas original number was (PB-10CC-1488). The two have been remanded to police custody till July 26. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune when they were being produced in a court, the accused said the truck was financed and they had changed the number plate to escape the recovery agents of the finance company. |

Nepalese driver nabbed
Chandigarh, July 22 On July 19, Randhir Sood lodged a complaint with the police that his driver hailing from Nepal, Tara Chand fled away with a briefcase carrying cash about Rs 11 lakh, along with important documents. A special team headed by SI Ashok Kumar conducted raids at the hideouts of the accused. During investigation, it has been revealed that the accused’s wife, Shweta is residing at Sonia Vihar, Delhi. The team was immediately dispatched to Delhi and his wife was joined in the investigations. She told the police that she received a call from her husband saying that he will leave Chandigarh today. On this crucial lead, the team immediately came back to Chandigarh and nabbed the accused, who was approaching towards the Delhi bus counter. The accused while interrogation disclosed that he started working for Randhir Sood as a driver four months ago and got well aware of the fact that his owner is a property investor and deals in heavy transactions of money. He further revealed that he was planning to go back to Nepal and buy a land to make his livelihood smooth. The accused will be produced in the court tomorrow. |

Chandigarh, July 22 In the first semifinal of the day, GMHS-36 thrashed GMSSS-22 6-0. After opening the account with a goal in the ninth minute, GMSSS-22 failed to come back in the match. Samuel sealed the team’s victory after scoring the goals in 10th, 15th, 17th and 22nd minutes of the game, while Gopi scored the final goal in the 42nd minute. In the second semifinal, Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, got the better of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10 (GMSSS-10), 2-0.
