Yoga championship:
Gopichand Arya Mahila College students — Ekta, Chanderkala, Mamta, Poonam, Priya and Jyoti — have bagged gold medals in the PU Inter-college Yoga Championship, Principal Dr Neelam Arun Mittu said today.

Annual function held:
The local RPSD Senior Secondary School run by the SD College Educational Society celebrated its annual prize distribution function today. Vijay Inder Singla was the chief guest on the occasion. General secretary Jatinder Nath Sharma gave welcome speech. Principal Raman Gupta gave the vote of thanks.

Skit hints at corruption:
The students tried to expose corruption in the traffic police by staging a musical skit during Blossom-2011(annual function) of Rajindra Children’s Academy here. Raj Kumar Jain was the chief guest on the occasion. He was joined by principal Sunita Chaudhary and social activist Krishan Siyag in lighting the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the function. The budding artists also presented folk dances.

Tragedy averted: Tragedy was averted as the railway staff swung into action timely on spotting that fire had broken out in the diesel engine of a passenger train today. Fire was noticed in the engine, belonging to the Phulera diesel shed on the North Western Railway, as Sriganganagar-Sadulpur passenger train reached Bhadra railway station. A probe has been ordered.

Jammu
Package sought for neglected areas
 : Bhim Singh, chairman of the National Panthers Party (NPP), on Saturday urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh either to declare all neglected and backward areas of J&K as scheduled areas or provide a special package of Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Tangdhar, Uri, Gurez, Drass, Zanskar, Padder, Marhwa-Duchhan, Gool-Mahore, Latti-Basantgarh, Bani, Mendhar-Mandi areas, which have remained totally neglected since 1947.

1 shot dead in Hajin
: Unidentified militants shot dead a person from Hajin area of Bandipore district in North Kashmir today. The Police here said that Ghulam Hassan Dar, was shot at by militants in Hajin, Sumbal, who later succumbed to his injuries. Further details were awaited.
