The local police appears to have gone overboard by cordoning off an entire section of a road in front of the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Sector 15 to accommodate a huge rush of visiting Congressmen expected to attend Amarinder Singh’s “coronation” ceremony in which he will be taking formal charge as PPCC president on Friday.

‘Ek Mamuli Aadmi’ staged to perfection

The fifth edition of the Annual Chandigarh Theatre Festival organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy commenced with the staging of a Hindi play “Ek Mamuli Aadmi” at the Bal Bhawan auditorium here today.
The play written by noted playwright Ashok Lal focused on the growing corruption menace, illustrated in a novel and convincing manner under the direction of acclaimed director-actor Sudesh Sharma.

A city businessman, Simranjeet Gill, has been literally taken for a ride and allegedly by none other than super bike makers, Harley Davidson.
Gill, who had bought a bike, Fatboy, from the company’s dealership here in August, is regretting investing a huge sum of Rs 19 lakh on the bike, which has been lying with the dealer for a month for want of repair.

In a short span of two months, Panjab University has witnessed four major incidents of violence, which in turn, has created an unpleasant atmosphere of fright among ordinary students.
Tragically, all these incidents took place in thickly populated areas on the campus and resulted in serious injuries to students, police personnel and even to senior university officials, who were on election duty.

Delegates’ visit
CHANDIGARH: On the last day of their visit, the 32-member delegation from Yishun Secondary School, Singapore, visited Bhavan Vidyalaya. The students attended Hindi and history periods, visited school labs and library. During the music and dance class, they had a glimpse of Indian classical music and saw a mesmerising kathak performance. A cultural programme was also organised, especially for them to showcase the Indian culture.
