Thermal plant engineers hold rally
Ropar, October 20 Engineers alleged that government was dilly-dallying its earlier assurances given at the time of unbundling of the PSEB. Patron Padamjit Singh, president HS Bedi, senior vice-president SC Chabba, general secretary and Bhupinder Singh addressed the rally. Engineers condemned the decision of the government to hand over the new thermal projects to private firms and Gidderbaha plant to NTPC. “After 560 MW Goindwal and 1980 MW, Talwandi Sabo thermal plants were given to private players, three technical members of the PSEB in an unprecedented manner wrote a joint note for taking up Rajpura thermal project under state sector listing out pitfalls in handing over the control of state’s generation to private players,” said Padamjit Singh. He added that after awarding Rajpura plant to private company, management recommended state government that Gidderbaha project be executed under state sector. However, state government awarded project to NTPC through memorandum of understanding route ignoring the fact that NTPC was backing out from commitment to supply power from its cheaper power projects at LARA, Dadri etc. Moreover, NTPC had not committed any timeline for completion of the project. They added that Powercom had construction and design wings for thermal plants and these wings would become redundant in case the government failed to use their services for setting up new plants. |
