Ropar, September 2 The main challenge Aulakh may face in the coming days is tackling the drug menace. Former SSP Yadav had launched a drive against drug peddlers. Aulakh held a meeting with the police officials, including SP (H) SS Bains, DSP (R) Bhupinder Singh Thind, DSP (H) Baldev Kaur, DSP Anandpur Sahib SS Dhaliwal, DSP Chamkaur Sahib Manminder Singh and DSP Nangal HS Hundal. Man booked for fraud
Ambala, September 2 Later, he learnt that the same amount had been credited in Mayur Sethi’s account of the State Bank of India. The sources said it was observed that the payee’s name was changed in the cheque. It was found that Mayur Sethi had closed his bank account after On August 31, another fraud had been detected in the same bank, when Anil Batra, proprietor of a local pharmaceutical firm, dropped a cheque for Rs 4 lakh in the box on August 25 for transferring the amount from their sister concern Blue Ways. But the said amount was not credited in their account till August 31. On checking the account, it was observed that the said amount was transferred to the account of Mayur Sethi. The affected person lodged a complaint with the police and after investigation, the police registered a case against Mayur Sethi. The police also recorded statement of duped account holders and several bank employees of the State Bank of India. Anil Goel, manager of the State Bank of India, told mediapersons that the investigation was on and it was also confirmed from the video footage of CCTV cameras, that both the account holders had dropped cheques for collection in the box on August 25. A thorough investigation was going on how the account in the name of Mayur Sethi was opened in the bank on the basis of a fake ID, attestation of signatures and without seeking introduction by an account holder, he added. |

No appointment letters even after four years
Ropar, September 2 Before the procedure could be completed, date for Vidhan Sabha elections was announced and around 90 successful candidates were left behind. “We are waiting for the appointment letters,” said Ajit Pal Singh, one of the candidates. He added that some candidates moved the court, but the government refused to issue appointment letters to these
candidates. “Now government has advertised to employ 110 clerks. It can issue appointment letters to the successful candidates and need not conduct new
recruitments,” said Ajit Pal Singh. |
Man duped of Rs 1 lakh
Zirakpur, September 2 The investigating officer stated that the case had been registered against Ajit Singh Bhalla, a resident of Professor Colony, Patiala; Harman Preet Singh, a resident of Banur, and Bobby, alias Vikas, a resident of Bazigar Basti, ward no 11, Banur, on the complaint of Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Sector 12-A, Panchkula. Lalli and Sandeep, are still at large. The police said in his complaint, Bhupinder Singh, a Panchkula resident, alleged that he was sitting at his office in Zirakpur, along with his friends, when Lalli and Sandeep approached him to sell a 13-bigha land at Banur village. He alleged that on August 28, they had fixed a place to settle the deal, where all the accused were present. The deal was finalised at Rs 1.54 crore per acre and Rs 1 lakh was given to the accused as token money. The accused had given six months period for the final payment. The complainant had asked them to meet the real owner of the land and the accused presented Ajit Singh Bhalla as the owner. Ajit told the complainant that he had agreement documents and registry of Rs 1.25 crore would be done accordingly. Later, Bhupinder Singh found out that the land was not for sale. He called up the accused to meet and asked them to return his money. He said he was going to call the police but in the meantime the accused fled from the spot. On a tip-off, the Baltana police today laid a naka near Harmilap Nagar and arrested them. ASI Anup Singh, Baltana chowki in charge, stated that three persons had been arrested and would be produced before Dera Bassi court tomorrow. A case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 IPC has been registered. |

Financier duped ofRs 7.31 lakh in 2008
Chandigarh, September 2 Adopting a similar modus operandi, the accused, Gian Singh, a Delhi-based property dealer, had taken the amount as token money from the unsuspecting buyer, the police said. The police had arrested Gian Singh along with Jarnail Singh and Sham Lal of Ludhiana and Jashmer Singh and Satpal Sidhu of Khuda Ali Sher. They had been booked in a case of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy and were on two-day police remand. During interrogation, Gian Singh revealed that he, along with the other men, had duped a local financier, Rakesh Kumar, of Rs 7.31 lakh in 2008. Gian Singh had then, impersonating as ML Khetarpal, a resident of Delhi and a retired Army officer, tried to sell residential property at Sector 33. The police said the accused had shown the victim photocopies of the allotment letter of the house along with a sale deed and had taken token money from Rakesh. Rakesh did not report the matter to the police after he failed to trace the accused. With the surfacing of this incident, investigators were now looking for other persons who were hand-in-glove with them. The SHO of the Sector 34 police station said raids were being conducted to nab other associates of Gian Singh. He said more such cases were likely to come to light during the course of interrogation of the accused. |

Tigers fail to roar
Chandigarh, September 2 The winners in other matches included Mirozam SSA that outplayed Haryana Football Association 6-1; Madhya Pradesh, which registered 1-0 victory over Dalbir Academy of Patiala and Youth Club of Rurka Kalan that drubbed Sampalpur Football Academy of Orissa 3-0. Earlier, Indian Tigers displayed an impressive show against Gorkha’s team today. Before Metai, who completed his hat trick by netting goals in the 60th, 63rd and 78th minutes, the team was already ahead 7-1. The other notable player was P Tshering Singh, who also contributed three goals. Singh drew the first blood in 15th minute and extended the lead 2-0 in the 24th minute. His third goal came in the 44th minute. The other goal-getters for Gorkhas were T Itonsana Singh (25th), Roel Lepcha (32nd), A Sushil Metei (37th) and Bijoy Subha (43rd). In the second match, Mirozam SSA overpowered Haryana Football Association 6-1. Haryana took the lead through Narender Singh in the 17th minute, which proved to be the only goal for the team. Mizoram team restored parity in the 19th minute through Francis Ramdin. After that there was no looking back for Mizoram, which took the 2-1 lead through Challiant Lunga (34th) and Dawngliana (39th) at the lemon break. The other half witnessed complete dominance as Dawngliana (45th), Lal Rin Hlya (57th) and C Remmawia (80th, penalty) increased their victory margin. At the Sector 17 Football Stadium, Madhya Pradesh eked out a surprising 1-0 victory over Dalbir Academy of Patiala in group D match. There was no goal in the stipulated time but the first minute of the addition time saw a goal by Mukesh Kumar of MP. In the match between Youth Club of Rurka Kalan and Sampalpur Football Academy of Orissa, Ashit Gupta opened the account for Youth Club in the 15th minute. Amritpal Singh (37th) and Harjit Singh (42nd) sealed the 3-0 victory for their team. In another match of the day, Indian Football Academy of Kolkata eked out a narrow 1-0 victory over SGGS Paldi. The important goal was scored by Sukhen in the 10th minute. Amardeep of SGGS Paldi and Mithun of IFA, Kolkata, were cautioned by the referee in 31st and 53rd minutes, respectively. Meanwhile, Mahindra and Mahindra of Mumbai did not show up for the match against Rohit Academy of Orissa, who were given a walkover and full points. Mahindras have withdrawn from the tournament.
