Late sarpanch’s kin fake will to grab property
Nakodar, June 20 He gave his decision in favour of Sukhwinder Singh and his brother Harpinder Singh, sons of Santokh Singh and nephews of late Massa Singh, husband of Gurdeep Kaur, as both produced a will of Gurdeep Kaur, written on November 4, 2008. Sandhu in his decision said though both wills were unregistered , the last will was found prepared at the time when the deceased was lying unconscious and struggling for life in Johal Hospital in Jalandhar on April 28, according to the hospital record obtained by the court. Sandhu said as the deceased was issueless, so her relatives were keeping an eye on her property worth crores of rupees. He said the will of 2008 was produced before tehsildars on May 14, 2009, and November 4, 2009, but the case was sent to then Nakodar SDM- cum-Assistant Collector on June 29, 2009 who favoured the claimants of last will and the matter was sent to the ADC Jalandhar-cum-Collector who again sent the case to Nakodar. After examining the case, it was found that the last will was prepared during the hospitalisation of the deceased. Iqbal Singh gave the decision under 15(2) (B) of Hindu Virasat Act 1956. |

Gurdaspur, June 20 At a meeting with senior district administration officials, the Batala Executive Engineer (Xen) was asked to take possession of land in Batala so that construction could commence. The Deputy Commissioner Pirthi Chand informed that he had written a letter to the state government to transfer six acres of land, in addition to the two acres already in possession with the administration, at the site earmarked for the construction of the judicial court complex at Gurdaspur. Justice Garg said a piece of land in the Malikpur Canal colony in Pathankot had been identified where the complex would be constructed. He said contrary to what people said, the area was not flood prone, a fact which has been confirmed by the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO). Pushkar Nanda, President of the Gurdaspur District Bar Association, also attended the meeting. |

Fire breaks out at 2 places
Jalandhar, June 20 According to the information, a jewellery shop, located at Sheikhan Bazar, caught fire which spread to four adjoining shops as fire engines could not reach there in time due to crowd because of Sunday bazaar. As many as five fire engines were pressed into service, which were trying their level best to put out the fire. Meanwhile, a minor fire broke out at the first floor of Shashtri Chowk branch of State Bank of Patiala. The fire was put out in time. The exact cause of fire and loss in both mishaps was being ascertained. —

8 booked in two abduction cases
Tarn Taran, June 20 The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, his two sons Rajanpreet Singh and Prince, besides his relatives Pala Singh and Nittu. The father of the girl, in his statement lodged with the police, alleged that Rajanpreet Singh, in connivance with one of his relatives, abducted his daughter on the night of June 14. He alleged that Rajanpreet had abducted his daughter luring her to marry him. SSP Preetpal Singh Virk said raids have been conducted to trace the accused. Meanwhile, Amandeep Kaur and two of her relatives from her parents’ side have been booked for abducting her husband’s sister from Lahian village, 35 km from here, falling under police station Sarai Amanat Khan. The police sources said besides Amandeep Kaur, the accused have been identified as Gurdit Singh (Amandeep’s uncle) of Rajoke village and Joginder Singh, the husband of Gurdit’s sister. It is said Amandeep Kaur was married only nine months back. Gurdit, being a close relative of Amandeep, used to come to her in-laws’ house aften. Amandeep’s father-in-law, in his statement to the police, said Gurdit developed illicit relations with his daughter. When he objected to this, he started coming to the house in his absence. He said one day Joginder Singh, being a close relative of Gurdit, came to his house and asked him to marry his daughter to Joginder, to which he objected. He said on the night of June 17, the accused managed to abduct his daughter, luring her to marry Gurdit. A case under sections 363 and 366 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. |

PTU announces break-up of BTech seats
Jalandhar, June 20 As per the official figures, there are 28,105 seats in BTech of which 8,393 are to be filled through management quota and 19,712 through counseling. While 16,755 seats are 85 per cent Punjab quota seats, 2,957 are meant for 15 per cent outside state candidates. As far as the number of participating candidates in CET is involved, a total of 28,895 students appeared in the test. Nearly 17,201 candidates have deposited fees for participating in online counseling, which is approximately 5000 more as compared to last year. The first online counseling started from June 15 and will continue till June 25. Till date 11,255 candidates in 85 per cent category in Punjab and 1,443 candidates in 15 per cent category from other states based on AIEEE merit have registered for online counseling out of whom a total of 8,847 and 967 candidates respectively have filled their choices for different streams. There are 8,880 general category seats available in B.Tech for which 7380 candidates have got themselves registered. Sikh category candidates will be facing a tough competition. While 1714 candidates have applied for through the category, only 523 seats are available. There are 392 border category and 360 defence category applicants for 335 seats in either of the two categories. Taking it the other way round, there are no applicants for 168 tsunami seats. There are just 52 applicants for candidates from riot affected families for which there are again 168 reserved seats. |
