Injured:
Nine persons were hurt after the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned on Bathinda-Badal road on Sunday. They were going from Khudiyan village to attend a Bhog ceremony at Gehari Bhagi village.

DERA BASSI
One held for forgery: Former chairman of the Market Committee, Dera Bassi, Dhanwant Singh was arrested in a case of forgery and sent to judicial custody till July 2 in Central jail, Patiala, by Dera Bassi court. He was accused of selling his house twice. A case was registered against him in the Dera Bassi police station on August 8, 2008, under Sections 406 and 420 and he was evading the arrest since then. Dhanwant Singh had been the chairman of the Market Committee, Dera Bassi, in the previous SAD-BJP government and also served as the chairman of Land Mortgage Bank, Dera Bassi.

Man killed in accident: A factory worker was killed in a road accident near Lalru on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Shivmagle, alias Shiv Parsad, a resident of Misroli of Balia district, Uttar Pradesh. An unidentified vehicle had hit him near a petrol pump on the national highway. The driver fled from the spot. The police has registered a case against the unidentified driver under Sections 279, 304-A of the IPC.

2 boxes of liquor seized: The Lalru police has seized two boxes of illegal liquor at a police naka near Lalru on Sunday. The liquor was brought from Chandigarh on cheaper rates in a Maruti car. A case has been registered against Somnath, a resident of Khajoor Mandi, Mohali, under the Excise Act. The accused was sent to judicial custody till July 2 by Dera Bassi court.

Dowry: Woman, son booked:
Jaskaran Singh and his mother Daljit Kaur of Talwandi Chaudhrian village have been booked under section 498 A and 406 of the IPC by the Chohla Sahib police for demanding dowry. A case has been registered on the statement of Ramandeep Kaur, daughter of Darshan Singh of Chohla Sahib. Ramandeep was married to Jaskaran Singh about two years back. She alleged that she was being tortured by her husband and mother-in-law for dowry.

Eve-teasing reported:
A case of eve-teasing was reported at Sector 15 here late on Sunday evening. The girls, residing in paying-guest accommodation in the same sector, were out for a stroll around 10 pm when a few boys began to follow them in a car. Two other boys started following the car. Agitated residents of the area called the police. The boys were taken to the Sector 3 police station. “The name of the complainant was Dr Amit, but he refused to divulge details of his particulars. A case was not registered,” said Mahavir, station house officer, Sector 3 (North) police station.

Pritpal bereaved: Satpal Singh (78), father of Baba Pritpal Singh, died of a heart attack on Sunday. Pritpal is currently lodged at the Burail jail in connection with a land-grab case. His father, who was staying at Gursagar Sahib and was reportedly in a state of shock after his son’s arrest, died of a heart attack at 3:30 pm.

Notice to teachers: The Department of School Education, Haryana, on Thursday issued directions to all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure that newly appointed PTIs and art and craft teachers join at their allotted places of posting within two days otherwise thereafter the process of cancellation of their candidatures should be started immediately. A spokesman for the department said consequent upon selection of 1,983 PTIs, 814 art and craft teachers by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission, the DEOs had issued appointment letters and posting orders. He said a number of PTIs and art and craft teachers had not joined as yet at their allotted place of postings.

2 SDOs suspended: The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has placed two SDOs, Rajbir Saroha and Ram Bhaj, under suspension. These officers were in charge of operation subdivision No.1 and subdivision No. 2, Pundri. It was observed that thousands of tube well connections had been in operation since long without any record in the office.

KALKA
Cops injured: SHO, Pinjore, a hawaldar and a constable were seriously injured when a recklessly driven car deliberately broke a naka on Sunday morning. Subsequently SHO, Dalip Kumar, hawaldar Subhash and PCR driver Gurdeep Singh sustained multiple injuries. Sources said SHO Dalip Kumar had got a wireless from the SHO, Kalka, that a white coloured car had broken the naka at Kalka and fled. The police set up barricades near the Mallah road, which were broken by the car. The SHO chased the car, along with Gypsy driver Gurdeep Singh and hawaldar Subhash, when the Gypsy turned turtle near Majri Chowk and struck with the divider of the road, resulting in injury to the SHO and his driver, who sustained fractures in shoulders. They were rushed to General Hospital, Sector 6 of Panchkula. The police has registered a case of attempt to murder on police personnel on duty.

REWARI
Woman commits suicide: Mukesh Devi, wife of Ravinder Kumar, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Pali village, 15 km from here, on Wednesday. The Khol police has booked her husband Ravinder and father-in-law Rameshwar on the charge of abetment to suicide following a complaint lodged by Sanjay, brother of the deceased. The complainant alleged that his sister was frequently subjected to cruel treatment by her husband in a state of inebriation.

SIRSA
13 hurt in mishap: Thirteen persons were injured, two of them seriously, when a pick-up turned turtle after hitting a motorcycle near Panniwala Mota village in this district. The vehicle, carrying 11 persons, was on its way from Rakharia village in Punjab to Khabra Kalan in Fatehabad. The victims, all members of a family, were going to mourn the death of one of their relatives. The vehicle hit a motorcycle and its driver lost control over it. Hanuman and Mukesh, who were riding the motorcycle, have been shifted to the PGIMS, Rohtak, with serious injuries, while 11 others have been shifted to the local general hospital.

10-month-old girl killed:
A 10-month-old girl died in Khanpur Kalan village after she was hit by a brick thrown by her cousin Sanjay during an altercation between two brothers over the ownership of 100 square yard plot in the village on Sunday. The girl’s body was handed over to the family members after a postmortem. A case has been registered. Two brothers - Ramesh and Dalip had some dispute over the ownership of a plot in the village. During an altercation between the two families, Ramesh’s son Sanjay threw a brick at Dalip, but it hit the girl sleeping on a cot nearby.

Villagers stage dharna: A number of residents of the local Geeta Bhawan locality led by municipal councillor Vimal Kishor staged a dharna at Geeta Bhawan Chowk on Sunday in protest against the erratic power and drinking water supply in the area for the past six months. The traffic was disrupted on the roads leading to railway-level crossing, bus stand and railway station. DSP Randhir Singh and SDO electricity reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to lift the dharna assuring that their grievances would be redressed soon. The protesters alleged that they had been complaining about the problems for the past six months to the concerned authorities, but to no avail.

2 officials booked: Additional Deputy Commissioner SS Dalal has ordered registration of a case against two officials - Ram Tirath, teacher in Government Senior Secondary School, Model Town, Sonepat, and LDC Ishwar Singh of Murthal subdivision of the HVPN for not depositing the census survey kit of the blocks allotted to them by June 15. Ram Tirath was deputed in block no. 25 and Ishwar Singh in block no. 156 to complete the census survey report. The ADC has issued warning that similar action will be taken against all those officials who did not deposit the survey kit by the June 18 noon.
