Phagwara
Youth found murdered
: A youth was found murdered with sharp-edged weapons in the field of Surinder Singh behind Royal Kings Resorts at Khajurala village in Phagwara subdivision in wee hours today. The body was noticed by Surinder Singh, who informed the police. The SP, Kamaljeet Singh Dhillon, along with other police officers rushed to the spot.The police has registered a case under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Girl run over by train: A Bihari migratory girl, Ranju (15), was run over by the Jalandhar-bound 303 Up Summer Special train near Phagwara Railway Station on Tuesday noon. She was crossing the railway lines. The GRP has sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Ban on hoardings: SDM Amarjeet Paul has imposed ban on the installation of hoardings, banners and posters on the national highways with immediate effect under section 144 of the CrPC. The orders will remain in force till August 14. In a press note issued on Tuesday, Paul said any hoarding, banner or poster could be installed only with the prior permission of the Executive Officer in the town and of Tehsildar in rural localities of the subdivision.

Vehicle thief arrested:The police has arrested a vehicle thief, Sarabjit Singh, resident of nearby Gaunspur village, and recovered two stolen motorcycles today.Sarabjit was trying to sell the motorcycles. 

electrocuted:Inderjit (10) was electrocuted in his house at Ravidasspura here on Monday night. He was playing on the roof when he accidentally touched live high tension wires. He was taken to the Phillaur Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. In another incident, a woman, Harjinder Kaur, died due to snake bite at nearby Jaggo-Sangha village on Monday night. In another incident, an unidentified middle aged man was run over by a train near Phillaur railway station on Monday.

Aptitude test: The department of Gandhian studies, Panjab University, will conduct an aptitude test on July 6 at 10 am and hold an interview at 12 noon on the same day, for admissions to MA, first semester in Gandhian studies and peace studies for the session 2010-2011.Both the test and the interview are compulsory and the last date to submit the admission form for the course is July 1.

Promotional cases: The Chandigarh SC and BC Employees Welfare Association has demanded the taking up of promotional cases in different departments on a priority basis. They also demanded that the appointment of association representatives in the departmental promotional committees be made to safeguard the interests of the reserved category candidates.

Blood donation camp
: On the World Blood Donor Day, the state Health and Family Welfare Department on Monday organised a blood donation camp at the proposed blood storage centre in the civil hospital here. The local Crescent Club assisted and made the camp successful. As many as 60 youths donated blood. Local MLA Rakesh Pathania inaugurated the camp.

Budget proposals: The governing body of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) of the local civil hospital on Tuesday passed annual budget proposals of the hospital to the tune of Rs 59.24 lakh. It gave nod to the construction of the Intensive Care Unit and purchasing of freezer for the mortuary. It also resolved to enhance 20 per cent wages of employees engaged by the RKS and sought permission from the state government to engage 17 more employees from the RKS to make hospital functioning more smooth. 

SUNDERNAGAR
Youth dies in mishap
: A youth died in a road accident when a tanker and car collided at Dwada on the Mandi-Kullu road on Monday. Dhusyant Sharma (27) of Purana Bazar, Sundernagar, was going in his car when it reached at Dwada, a tanker came from the Kullu side and both vehicles collided. He was injured and afterwards he died on way to a hospital. A case has been registered.
