The decision of city CBSE schools to do away with the “best of five” policy and convert the percentage of the ICSE students into the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for Class XI admissions has left hundreds of students harried.

Adopting an insensitive attitude, Panjab University’s fine arts department has refused to allow its premises to be used for holding a practical examination of a course run by PU’s University School of Open Learning (USOL), causing harassment to students who arrived on the varsity campus for the exam on Monday.

Youths snatch Rs 50,000
Zirakpur, June 15 Two scooter-borne youths snatched Rs 50,000 from a woman, resident of Dhakoli, here this afternoon. The police has identified one of the suspects as Rajinder Kumar, resident of Mauli Jagran.

2 killed, 7 injured in collision
Ambala, June 15
Two persons were killed and seven others were injured when a cab collided with a mini truck near Shahazadpur on Tuesday morning. Three of the injured were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. The deceased were identified as Arjun Singh and Rattan Lal. According to sources, twelve persons were going to Baddi from Haridwar in a mini truck and when they were crossing near Shahazadpur the mini truck collided with the cab. Two occupants of the cab died on-the-spot, while seven others sustained serious injuries.

20 students picked up

Around 20 students (first year) of BTech in TV, film production and media technology of Punjabi University’s Centre for Advanced Media Studies have been selected by a team of media committee for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to perform various media-related tasks during the games to be held at New Delhi in October. Of the 30 students, 10 could not appear for the interview.

Notification for acquisition of land quashed
Chandigarh, June 15
Just over two years after the state of Haryana issued notification for acquisition of land in Panchkula district for construction of the Border Security Force battalion headquarters, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed the same. The Bench also held the Union of India at fault for displaying “apathy”.

The police has booked a resident of Industrial Area on charge of abducting a 14-year-old girl.

2 booked for theft

The police today booked two persons in a theft case on the complaint of Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Friends Colony, Zirakpur. The accused have been identified as Gurjinder Singh and Gurtar Singh.
