Hike in Home Guards’ allowance: The state government has enhanced the daily wage allowance of Home Guards volunteers from Rs 150 per day to Rs 300 per day with immediate effect. Stating this here on Tuesday an official spokesman said now Home Guards volunteers would get Rs 9,000 per month. He said the washing allowance of these volunteers had also been enhanced from Rs 40 per month to Rs 80 per month. Nearly 11,790 volunteers would benefit by this decision.
Khadi board on pay panel report: The Punjab Khadi and Village Industries Board (PKVIB) has approved the recommendations made by the Punjab Fifth Pay Commission and ordered their implementation with immediate effect. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, PKVIB Employees Union president Pradeep Dewan said during a recent meeting, board Chairman Vijay Sampla had agreed to the demand of the board employees and ordered implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.

Stolen vehicles recovered: With the recovery of 25 stolen vehicles, the Bathinda and Mansa police on Tuesday claimed to have busted two inter-state gangs of vehicle lifters. Eight persons were arrested, while several others were still absconding.The gangs had network in Punjab, Haryana and other neighbouring states. Sources in the Police Department said one of the accused, Jagtar Singh of Gobindpura in Bareta (Mansa), had claimed to be a BJP leader.

Three injured: Three persons sustained serious injuries in a collision between a car and a Tata-407 truck near Nawanpind on the Nakodar-Noormahal road. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital.
Phagwara
One killed: An unidentified person was run over by a train near Phagwara railway station last night. The railway police has sent the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
