Langar sewa
: State Finance Minister Manpreet Badal performed langar sewa, along with over 1,250 people of his Giddarbaha constituency, at the Golden Temple here on Thursday. He urged the SGPC to accord sewa to them for at least two days. Manpreet, along with the people of his constituency, chopped vegetables, prepared langar and washed utensils. Baldev Singh, manager of Guru Ramdas Langar Ghar, honoured the minister on this occasion.

Professor honoured: Dr N.S. Neki, Professor of Medicine, Government Medical College and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, was honoured with the Prof G.S. Sainani Oration award by the Geriatric Society of India (GSI) at the 13th GSI conference held in Hyderabad recently. The award was given for his contribution in the field of geriatric medicine, said the press note issued here on Wednesday.

Hike in wheat MSP ‘inadequate’
: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday rejected the hike of Rs 20 per quintal in the MSP of wheat announced by the Centre, raising it to Rs 1,100 from last year’s Rs 1,080 per quintal and described it as “woefully inadequate and unjustified”. In a statement Badal said a meagre hike of Rs 20 was nothing but a cruel joke on farmers who were already in distress due to low returns on their produce.

State floats Rs 200 cr loan: The Punjab Government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India on Thursday floated a Rs 200 crore (nominal) loan to finance part of the capital expenditure of Plan schemes and other development schemes under execution. According to an official spokesman the state government notified the sale of Punjab Government stock (securities) of 10-year tenure for an aggregate amount of Rs 200 crore (nominal).

Eyes donated
: The eyes of 110-year-old Tara Singh of Jahura village were donated by his family on the motivation of the Eye Donation Association after his death. According to a press note by association president Bahadur Singh Sunnet here on Wednesday, the eyes were sent to Eye Bank, Ludhiana, for corneal transplantation. 

Lok adalat: District and Sessions Judge S.K. Goel in a press note here on Wednesday appealed to the litigants to resolve their disputes through the lok adalats as they provided quick and economical justice. He said a quarterly lok adalat would be held in the Court Complex, Hoshiarpur, and in its subdivisions at Dasuya and Garhshankar on November 21.

6 girls hurt in mishap
: Six girls were injured when the minibus they were travelling in had a head-on collision with a standing truck on the Jakhal road at Sunam on Thursday morning. The girls belonged to Lehra Gaga and worked as labourers in a thread mill at Barnala. They have been identified as Sandeep Kaur, Gurtej Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Shallu Rani and Jassi.

: The department of computer science and applications, MCM DAV College for Women, organised a seminar on “Software Engineering & SQA”.JP Singh, lead auditor and consultant for quality management and information security systems, was the key speaker on the occasion.He apprised students of software development phases, associated challenges and testing criteria.He also spoke on quality assurance activities, their significance and ways to meet software quality standards. 

Mobile ambulance: The State Bank of India has come to the aid of a local NGO by presenting them with a cheque for Rs 2,59,242 for purchase of a mobile ambulance. The cheque was presented by chief general manager Ajay Swaroop, to the Universal Disabled Care Taker Social Welfare Society.
