Abohar
Aggarwal Navyuvak Sabha:
Anil Nagori was unanimously elected as president of the Aggarwal Navyuvak Sabha during a meeting held at the Satluj Public School. His name was proposed by Vikram Mittal. Nagori assured that he will make efforts to boost Aggarwal Bhawan besides initiating activities by organising blood examination camp on November 1.

Awareness against tobacco:
The Bee Jay Shikshan and Prashikshan Sansthan in Sriganganagar recently organised an awareness programme to caution the youths against smoking and chewing of tobacco-based material. Director Brahm Bhatia said the objective is to inform people on dangers of using tobacco.

Bandh call for Nov 3:
To mark the 25th anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Dal Khalsa and the Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) have given a call for a statewide bandh on November 3. Bhai Mohkam Singh, chairman of the KAC, said emergency services had been exempted from the bandh. The leaders have asked the people to stage protest demonstrations on the day, but in a peaceful manner.

Senior citizens boycott  purchase of Chinese goods:
In a meeting held here on Monday, members of the Senior Citizens Council condemned the Chinese government for its statement on the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Arunachal Pradesh, an integral part of India. Proposed by the president of the Council, Prof DS Mastana, all members pledged to boycott the purchase of Chinese goods. 

Vyapar Mandal chief elected: Madan Lal Kapoor has been elected as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Vyapar Mandal during a meeting held here on Monday. Kapoor has been winning with a clear majority since 1992. During the meeting, the traders also discussed various problems they had been encountering in the recent past.

Song competition held:
The Faridkot district unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad on Sunday organised a state-level patriotic group song competition in Hindi and Sanskrit at Mahatma Gandhi Senior Secondary School. Nearly 22 teams from across the state took part in it. In Hindi song competition SKB DAV Centenary Public School, Fazilka, bagged first position, while in Sanskrit DAV Senior Secondary School, Mansa, stood first. State president of the parishad Subhash Goyal said the winners would take part in national-level competitions to be held at Vishakhapatnam in January.

Elected:
Ram Krishan, leading garment machinery manufacturer, has become the president of Garment Machinery Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (GAMMSA) for the fourth consecutive year. 

Mansa
Trade unions to stage stir
:To support their demands the trade unions would hold demonstrations at district headquarters following the national-level call given by these unions. Informing this, trade union leaders Kaka Singh district president of AITUC (All India Trade Union Congress) and AICCTU leader Bhagwant Singh Sammaon said members of various trade unions would participate in the demonstrations. The main demands which would be raised during the demonstrations include proper implementation of labour laws , check on price rise of essential commodities, proper implementation of NREGA and increase in the working days under the law. 

Football tourney concludes: The IX district football championship concluded on Sunday evening in the ground of Gandhi Senior Secondary school Mansa. Nearly 14 teams from the whole district had participated in this tournament. Along with these teams, four teams of children also participated in the games. These games were held by the District Football Association, Mansa. The teams of Jhanduke and Fattha Maloka stood first and second respectively in this championship. SAD general secretary Balwinder Singh Bhunder and DC Kumar Rahul presided over the concluding ceremony and distributed prizes to the winners. In the games competition, Singhe King Club, Mansa stood first while Fakkhar Club, Mansa secured second position.

Raj Bahadur gets extension: Professor Raj Bahadur has been granted extension for one more year to continue as Director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandiagarh. Professor Bahadur has been on deputation from the PGI since December, 2007, and last year, he was also granted one-year extension.

Player felicitated:
Pooja Thakur of Jukhala, who captained Indian women Kabaddi team achieved a gold medal at the Malaysian International Games and who was also declared the Best Kabaddi Player in this meet, was felicitated by Forest Minister JP Nadda in a function at the Circuit House on Monday. He announced cash prizes of Rs 21,000 each from the HP State Olympic Association and various other organisations. Nadda also announced that the state government would give a handsome prize to Pooja for her achievement. 

DALHOUSIE
10 hurt in van mishap:
Ten persons were injured when a private Maruti Van (HP-57-2119) met with an accident at Dentha Mor in Bhattiyat subdivision of the district on Sunday evening. According to police sources, the injured, including the driver, who were travelling in the vehicle had been admitted to a nearby Primary Health Centre at Samot for medical treatment. 

SOLAN
Man killed:
A man was injured and another injured when the Scorpio (HP-51-A-1965) they were travelling in fell into a 150-m deep gorge near Kathlighat on the NH-22 on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Satish Mehta (40), a resident of Kotgarh, and injured was identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Bharari in Shimla district. He was rushed to the IGMC, Shimla, for treatment. The police has registered a case.
