Cops putting pressure to blame contractor, says Hira Lal’s widow

While Panchkula SP Amitabh Dhillon has asked DSP Virender Singh to conduct an inquiry into the death of a jhuggi dweller, Hira Lal, the cops suspected to have tortured him have begun exerting pressure on the victim’s family to lay the blame on a contractor.

Study tour to Gujarat MCs
Rodrigues sends back report

It seems that the Chandigarh Administrator, Gen S F Rodgriues, is not satisfied with the report submitted by a team of councillors of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, who had gone on a study tour of the three Municipal Corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat. He had sent back the report, prepared by them, with the directions to the MC commissioner to give his comments, before it is considered by the administration.

Mani Majra resident held for molesting woman
Chandigarh, October 26
The police today said it had arrested a man on charges of attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman. According to the cops, the 15-year-old victim alleged one Bablu of Darshani Bagh in Mani Majra had been harassing her and outraged her modesty on Sunday afternoon. She claimed he had also threatened her with “dire consequences” if she reported the matter to anyone. A case was registered against the accused.

Man held for thefts

The police has solved several cases of theft with the arrest of a Phase-7 resident, Rajesh Kainth.Stolen jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh has also been recovered from the accused. Phase 11 SHO Deepinder Singh said while investigating a complaint lodged by Sarabjeet Kaur, a resident of Phase 11, the police tracked down the accused and on questioning he confessed to having committed several thefts.
