MC pulls down 68 structures

Shops demolished to clear way for the construction of Lakkar Bridge in Ludhiana on Monday. The municipal corporation today undertook a major demolition drive, razing 68 structures, excluding its building near Clock Tower, to make space for the construction of the Lakkar bridge.

Shopkeepers protest

The “settlement” of shopkeepers rendered homeless following the demolition of the Lakkar bridge near the railway station market irked those already placed there.As a result, the New Market and Super Market shopkeepers’ association today staged a dharna at the railway station and blocked the GT Road.

GLADA Draw: Will speculators benefit?

While GLADA has announced the schedule for conducting a draw for the allotment of 158 residential plots in Sector 39-A on the Chandigarh road here on November 12, there is apprehension among applicants, especially those who really need land for the construction of houses, that speculators or property dealers would benefit from the allotment due to the sheer number of multiple applications submitted by them to resell the plots and earn a handsome premium on short-term investment.

A septuagenarian woman was robbed when she was coming out of a gurdwara after solemnising the marriage of her granddaughter at Model Town last evening.

Students to get technical education

“The Punjab government is chalking out plans to provide technical education to students, so that they can avail employment opportunities at national and international levels,” said Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Technical Education, while addressing a function at United Cycles Parts and Manufacturing Complex at the Gill Road here today.
