Haryana goes out of way to ‘help’ DLF
Gurgaon, October 4
A “shady” deal between a Haryana government agency and realty giant DLF is all set to raze trees and other plantation from hundreds of acres of forest land in Gurgaon, which is already turning into a concrete jungle.

No respite from flood fury
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh toll 200, 
lakhs rendered homeless
Bangalore/Hyderabad, October 4
The unprecedented floods in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have forced the state governments to appeal to the public for help in cash and kind for augmenting the relief operations. The death toll due to rain and floods in the two states rose to 169 and 37, respectively, today even though unofficial estimates put the count much higher.

Centre rushes personnel, boats to
flood-hit areas
New Delhi, October 4
The central government has dispatched trained personnel and motorised boats to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to help both states in rescue operations against the flash floods and torrential rains during the past few days.

No vulgar salaries to CEOs, India Inc told
New Delhi, October 4
Having launched an austerity drive to check public expenditure, the government has advised India Inc to refrain from doling out “vulgar” salaries to CEOs. “I think when we are working on this (austerity), we can hardly say we (will) shut our eyes on what salary the CEOs are going to take,” Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said when asked how the government intended to control salaries of CEOs, which at times appear vulgar.
