3 held for murder:
The Tanda police has booked Faquir Singh, his son Mota and daughter Kamaljit Kaur, all residents of Kurala under sections 302 and 34 of the IPC for allegedly murdering Kishan Gopal (22) of ward No 5 of Tanda Urmur last evening.

Rs 36,400 snatched: Two unidentified motorcycle-borne youths snatched a bag containing Rs 36,400 from Ramji Dass, President Nagar Panchayat Mahilpur last night while he was going to his house after closing his shop at Mahilpur last night. After snatching the bag, the duo fled on their motorcycle under the cover of darkness.

Man held for using fake number plate
: The Chandigarh Police recently arrested a Mohali-based caterer for using fake registration number plate on his car. Naresh Kumar was arrested from Sector 40 when he was driving an Alto car bearing a fake registration number plate.

Karate meet on Oct 5, 6: The Panchkula District Wushu and Karate Championships will be held at Jainendra Public School, Panchkula, on October 5 and 6.

Eye check-up camp
: The local Mehar Baba Charitable Trust organised a free eye check-up camp at the community development centre here recently. A team of doctors checked up 365 patients belonging to the BPL families of 75 surrounding villages. Hassan Mejie, founder trustee, said 130 patients were diagnosed for cataract operation. They have been registered for operation and IOL replacement free of cost by the MBCT.

Bangladeshis arrested
: Four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by security forces when they were allegedly trying to cross over to Pakistan along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district on Saturday. Official sources said during a search operation, troops of the 7 J&K Rifles caught the Bangladesh nationals near the border in the Hansuchak area of Vijaypur border belt in the district on Satuday. They have been identified as Ajaiab Ali, Hussain Ali, Minto Miya and Mohmmad Shahid.

Pondicherry CM visits state: Chief Minister of Pondicherry V Vaithilingam who is on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir was received by the advisor to the state chief minister Mubarak Gul at Jammu airport on Sunday. Interacting with the Chief Minister Pondicherry, Gul asked for better coordination between tourist agencies of the two states to promote tourism. He also invited him to visit Kashmir on behalf of Chief Minister of state and also discussed the various issues of Kashmiri families settled in Pondicherry.

Jawan commits suicide
: A BSF jawan allegedly committed suicide after shooting himself with his service rifle in Nowshera area here on Sunday. The police sources said Jatinder Singh of 138 Battalion of BSF posted at Nowshera was on sentry duty allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at about 1.30 pm and died on the spot.

Urs concludes: The two-day long annual Urs (congregation) of Sain Ganji Sahab concluded at his Ziarat Sharief in the Danna area of Fatehpur here on Sunday. Thousands of devotees attended the congregation wherein special prayers were offered for peace in state. Sain Abdul Rasheed, Gaddi Nasheen (legal Heir) of Sain Ganji Sahab, thanked the devotees for turning in large numbers. He wished peace returns to the insurgency hit state very soon.

SRINAGAR
4 killed in mishaps
: Four persons died in road accidents in the Kashmir valley since Saturday. Two persons were killed when they were hit by a speeding TATA Sumo on way from Srinagar to Magam on Saturday. Those injured were shifted to hospital, where two of them, Ghulam Ahmad Wani and his adopted son Zeeshan Ahmad Wani succumbed to their injuries. In another incident a pedestrian was killed when hit by a speeding Maruti car at Pattan on Srinagar-Baramulla highway. While an Army jawan Krishan Kumar died on the spot as the vehicle in which he was travelling turned turtle near Neelgrath.

Workshop on climate change: A three-day international workshop on Climate Change, Glacial Retreat and Livelihoods will be organised by the state government in collaboration with Kashmir University and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) from October 12 at SKICC here. Internationally acclaimed environmentalist RK Pachauri of TERI would be the guest of honour and the workshop is likely to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. A large number of international and national experts from university, research organisation, forest industry, other departments, NGOs etc are participating in the deliberations.

Conference on Buddhist studies: The University of Kashmir is hosting a three-day conference on Buddhist studies to be held at the varsity’s convocation complex from Monday. The conference is being organised by the Department of Sanskrit to observe the 9th Annual Session of Indian Society for Buddhist Studies. Vice-chancellor Riyaz Punjabi would preside over the conference.
