Curb power theft in 2 months, warns Nishank
Dehradun, September 3 The Chief Minister, who was presiding over a meeting of senior officials of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam and officials of Renewable Energy Department, said that every effort should be made to complete the ongoing hydroelectric projects in the state on time so that the state could get maximum benefit from these projects. Expressing concern at the large-scale line losses, the Chief Minister said that power theft should be stopped. Officials and employees would be made accountable for it at every stage, he said. He wanted the officials to show results on curbing power theft and line losses within two months. On the ongoing power projects, Nishank said that the state has been generating 4,500 million units of power but a work plan should be made to increase the generation of power to 6,500 million units. He directed the officials of the irrigation department to hand over the Chilla Power Canal and Dakpathar Power Canal to the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam immediately. Expressing unhappiness over the large number of power meters lying in the stores of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation, he ordered a probe into the purchase of these meters and asked the officials to submit the report to him. Regarding renewable energy resources, Nishank said that there was a need to study the generation capacity of all resources like ‘gharats’, solar energy and wind energy in the state. “If a proper study was done, the proposed capacity of 25 MW of renewable energy in the state could be enhanced,” he added. Yogendra Parsad, chairman of the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam, said that 116 power projects having a capacity of 11,948 MW have been allocated. Out of these 7,302 MW are with the central government, 2,764 with the state government and 1,882 MW with private players. The state has an installed capacity of 1,304 MW that should generate 6,500 million units but only 4,500 million units was being generated. Officials of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation said that in 2008-09, the corporation got 7,631 million units from the state and central quota but a billing of only 5,493 million units
was done. The line losses of 48 per cent were recorded in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. They said that electricity bills totalling Rs 1,400 crore were pending in the state. The Chief Minister directed all concerned officials to come out with an action plan to show positive results in the power sector within two months. ACTION PLAN

Sacked teachers demand jobs back
Dehradun, September 3 Sushma Sharma, Manorama Rawat, Shilpa Agarwal, Anita Devi, Lalit Sharma, Vinita Sharma, Shweta Bautiyal and Kusum Bhatt are the teachers who were dismissed. The teachers are demanding their jobs back with an apology from the school principal Sunita Sharma for humiliating and assaulting one of the terminated teachers, Manorama Rawat, during a heated discussion that took place on
September 1. However, it all began on August 15, when the principal increased the salary of the staff teachers in a very disproportionate manner. Post salary increment, a group of 13 teachers approached Sunita to know on what basis the increment has been done. But the principal refused to answer the queries and without prior information terminated eight teachers, alleged teachers. “On September 1 when I asked her what’s the reason for my termination, she humiliated and slapped me. She even closed the main gates of the school so that none of the terminated teachers could enter the school premises,” alleged Manorama Rawat, a teacher. Subhash Sharma, a senior teacher said, “We don’t know what is our fault. The situation got worst, when Manorama Rawat, who refused to sign on the termination paper, was humiliated and was slapped.” The terminated teachers have decided to protest and to fight against the injustice. “This is a CBSE recognised school, but doesn’t follows the guidelines issued by the CBSE. Apart from teaching, we also manage stationery and canteen affairs,” said Subhash
Sharma. However, the principal Sunita Sharma has denied the allegations made against by the terminated teachers. |

MDDA prepares list of defaulters
Tribune News Service
Dehradun, September 3 On completion, the store was opened to the public in August. Relentless pressure by the media forced the MDDA to take action. As a result, the store was sealed on August 28. But the owners of Damama managed to get a stay from the administration on August 31. In his plea, the owner of Damama named several other owners who also had not bothered to get their land use changed and demanded similar action against them. A list too was also submitted. The query as to how MDDA officials failed to take note of gross violations of norms that transformed peaceful residential areas into thriving and congested commercial ones yielded little results. “We have issued notices in the past. In this case, the survey of the complexes that have figured in the complaint will be undertaken. “The owner Damama did not apply for land use change and we will see how the stay can be vacated,” said VC MDDA Senthil Pandia. Now on the back foot, the MDDA is preparing a list of commercial complexes on Subhash Road where land use has not been changed. |
