Amritsar Workshop held: In order to make the general public aware regarding fake notes, a two-day workshop on ‘detection of forged notes’ was organised by RBI, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Punjab National Bank at its city circle office, here today. Sushil Kaul, Assistant General Manager and OP Verma, Chief Manager, RBI Chandigarh, while speaking on the occasion, said the RBI decided to organise the workshop due to the growing menace of fake notes and close proximity of the region with the Pakistan border. Prominent citizens, police, custom officers, officers of leading banks, railways, post offices, traders etc. participated in the workshop. Dr Neki honoured: Dr N. S. Neki, Professor of Medicine, Government Medical College and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, has been selected for the International Medical Excellence Award along with a Certificate of Medical excellence. He would be honoured by Korn Dabbarnasi, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand on October 8. Pulse polio drive: A pulse polio drive would be held from September 13-15 for children in 0 to 5 years age-group. Civil surgeon Neelam Bajaj and district vaccination in-charge Ajit Pal Singh on Monday said besides 16,435 children, kids staying at 170 kilns in the district would also be administered drops.
‘Dandia raas mahotsav’: The Gujrati Welfare Society would be orgnising the ‘dandia raas mahotsav’ from September 1—15 at the Sanatan Dharam Motiram Kanya Mahavidyalaya here. The timings would be 5:30 pm to 7 pm. The society has been organising the 15-day training programme from the past nine years.
CHANDIGARH Anti-rabies campaign: The Punjab government has decided to launch a sustained anti-rabies and sterilisation campaign of stray dogs in cities and villages of the state. According to an official spokesman, it has been decided that this problem can be tackled by launching a coordinated drive by different departments and animal welfare non-government organisations. Local bodies in cities and panchayats in villages will be responsible for this exercise and the Animal Husbandry Department will provide technical and logistic support.
