In a move that would significantly empower women at the grassroots level, the Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to increase quote for them in panchayats to 50 per cent.

Professional education in India is all set to shed its elitist tag, with the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approving the much-awaited interest-free education loan scheme for poor students, which was recently promised by the Prime Minister in his Independence Day address.
