CM orders details of SIDCUL allotment
Raju William Tribune News Service
Dehradun, August 14 Sources said the CM has directed secretary, Industries and Managing Director, SIDCUL, to do so on the basis of “The Tribune” report published in its August 11 edition. It was reported that Hero Honda Motors Limited had failed to pay the premium of 102 acres given to it in 2006 at the Integrated Industrial Estate, Haridwar. The state government had given land at highly subsidised rates under the special package to companies interested in setting up their units. Sources said the CM took strong exception to the Hero Honda Motors case due to which the state was being deprived of revenue of as much as Rs 120 crore at the present rate of Rs 3,150 per square metre. The company has not bothered to pay the premium despite notices given to it. The final notice was sent on May 1 with the warning that in case it failed to comply within 30 days, the allotment would be cancelled. However, SIDCUL authorities took no action even two months after expiry of the notice period. Since the land is still in possession of the company, it cannot be allotted to any other applicant. Notably, there are several big companies planning to set up units in the state. Sources said that the delay on part of the SIDCUL in divesting the company of the possession could hurt the interests of the state because no company is expected to be interested in getting this land in absence of incentives under the special package, which is expiring on March 31, 2010. |

4 in Doon Hospital with encephalitis
Kotdwar (Pauri Garhwal), August 14 According to Dr RS Rawat, chief medical superintendent of Kotdwar hospital, four persons from Aamsaur village had died on August 7 due to some ‘mysterious’ disease. However, later when a medical team was sent to the village it was revealed that three of them had died with symptoms of encephalitis. The cause of the death of the fourth person could not be ascertained. Other nine persons were found with symptoms of viral fever and brought to hospital for treatment. As a precautionary measure, these patients were kept in isolation ward. Since then, 21 persons have been admitted to the hospital four of them with symptoms of encephalitis have been referred to Doon Hospital. “The oral swab samples of patients admitted in the hospital have also been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) for investigation,” informed the CMO of Pauri district Dr KK Tamata. He informed that a permanent medical camp has been set up at Aamsaur village. Encephalitis, also known as brain fever, is caused by a virus that leads to inflammation of the brain membrane. “It is strange that a small hamlet with 65 families suddenly got infected with encephalitis,” said
Dr Rawat. According to sub-divisional magistrate of Kotdwar Tehsil GC Gunvant, the revenue officials have also been put on high alert and asked to report any patient with viral fever or encephalitis to the tehsil headquarters immediately. Gunvant said water sources for the village were also checked for any possible pollution and chlorinated potable water is being provided to villagers. “Samples of water taken from the village have been sent to the Pathological Referral Laboratory at BHEL, Haridwar,” he informed. |
ONGC mulls entry into gas distribution
Dehradun, August 14 However, he refrained from making any policy statement in this regard as the idea was in its preliminary stage.
“All I can say at the moment is that value- addition to the idea is on. We feel that the segment has immense growth potential. We will discuss this at the board meeting,” he said. For the purpose, the company is planning to hire experts. Their report would provide basic inputs on various aspects of its feasibility, including investment, returns, infrastructure and marketing. The final decision whether ONGC should foray into this segment would depend on the experts’ advice. As of now, the core strength of the company is exploration of oil and gas. The idea is part of the company’s new investment plans despite the fact that many top companies have refrained from doing so due to the global meltdown. Since, it would be a new business area for the oil major, it might also look for tie-ups with other companies. One of ONGC’s top executives said the idea makes sense in terms of a new business opportunity in anticipation of the hike in price of LPG. |
