Now, BJP media cell dissolved
Dehradun, June 8 According to senior party leaders, the media cell failed to propagate achievements of the government among the masses and could not manage good rapport with the media. Interestingly, BJP media cell had convened press briefing of the party's central and state leaders almost daily during the elections. Meanwhile, senior party leaders have hinted that many more heads are likely to roll in the coming days. "Assessment of functioning of various cells, units and office-bearers of the party during the general elections is currently underway. Action against non-performers and those who indulged in any sort of anti-party activity is sure," said a senior BJP leader on conditions of anonymity. Sources revealed that BJP's national executive meet is likely to be held during the third week of June. "In wake of this, party's state leadership has accelerated work of compilation of the assessment report pertaining to the party's dismal performance in the elections," revealed a party insider, while adding that some senior party leaders in the state unit may be relieved of their responsibilities in the coming days. Meanwhile, infighting in the party came to the fore yesterday when two groups of BJP leaders indulged in sloganeering against each other. The incident occurred during a meeting called by the BJP's Mahanagar president Viney Goyal. After acceptance of Goyal's resignation, he convened a meeting of party workers at Mahanagar office yesterday. During the proceedings, some supporters of Goyal flayed the party's state leadership and claimed that after BJP's defeat, Goyal took the moral responsibility and himself submitted his resignation. However, another group of BJP activists raised slogans against Goyal for convening the meeting at the party office, notwithstanding the fact that his resignation had already been accepted by the party leadership. |

Red-faced, govt reverts to irrigation dept
Dehradun, June 8 Making amends, the government has reverted to the irrigation department for preparing DPR of the Arakot Tyuni project (81 MW) spread over Dehradun and Uttarakashi districts. About three years back, the government found the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) worthy of the job. The UJVNL hired a French consultancy agency ‘Coyne et Bellier’ in 2006 for preparing the DPR in 15 months at the cost of Rs 3.4 crore. But the job remained incomplete even after a year’s extension. |

6th Pay Panel
Dehradun, June 8 Albeit Uttarakhand was one of the states that had lost no time in announcing implementation of the recommendations, it had put tremendous pressure on state finances. In the coming annual budget, the state government will have to bear an extra burden of Rs 1,400 crore on account of salaries revision alone. But the dissatisfaction is still baffling the government. Employees, under the banner of Rajya Karamchari Sanyukt Parishad, have once again taken up the issue and a delegation today met Subhash Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, at his office. The members drew his attention to shortcomings in the three government orders issued in this regard in October, 2008, and February, 2009. Giving in to the demand of the Parishad, the Principal Secretary has agreed to convene a meeting of the officials from personnel and finance departments along with the delegation. Sources said the government does not want any confrontation with the employees who had organised demonstrations and struck work in the government offices last year. Subhash Kumar went a step further by assuring the delegation that in case it was not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting, another one could also be arranged with the Chief Secretary. The delegation has mainly demanded benefits under 22-A, 22-B, one increment at the time of promotion, removal of anomaly in implementation of Assured Career Promotion scheme and disparity in grade pay and pay band. It has sought immediate action on these points. Although the Parishad has so far refrained from holding any agitation, its spokesperson Arun Pandey did not rule out hitting the streets like in the past if the matter remained unresolved. |
