Border village girl secures 96% in science stream

Tanvi tops Class X ICSE exam in city

A student of St Joseph’s Convent School, Cantonment road, Tanvi Soni has stood first in Class X ICSE examination in the city. The results were declared here today. An IIT aspirant, she has scored 96.14 per cent by obtaining 673 marks out of 700. She has got cent per cent each in mathematics and computer education, 98 in Hindi, 97 in science, 94 each in environment studies and social studies, and 90 in English.

Dress code issue
School allows girl to wear salwar kameez
Jalandhar, May 20
The issue of the wearing of a ‘salwar kameez’ by a baptised Sikh student has been amicably resolved in favour of the child. Ravinder Singh Laddi, national general secretary of the SAD (A), who had highlighted the matter, said the school management had allowed Jaskaranpreet Kaur to wear a ‘salwar kameez’ instead of a skirt.

The police today produced Baldev Raj Kondal, a member of the spy gang, who was arrested by the police yesterday, in the court which remanded him in police custody till May 25.

2 booked for illegal construction

Taking serious note of the constructions being carried out within the area of 1,000 sq yards near an Army dump and ammunition depot here, the district police today booked Mushtaq Masih and Sardool Singh, both residents of Vallah, registering two separate cases against them.

It surely was a proud moment for the staff of MGN Public School as its students grabbed the topmost positions in all four streams in Plus Two among the city’s CBSE schools this year.

Aayush Chhabra of the school from commerce stream has topped in the city with 95.2 per cent marks. He shares the rank with Devika Narula of Apeejay School, also from the same stream. An MGN student, Aseem Syal has attained 95 per cent marks in the non-medical stream. Anandbir Singh Bath from the same school has also come out with flying colours by scoring 94 per cent marks in the medical stream. Upneet Kaur Dhaliwal, a humanities student from the same school, has got 89.8 per cent marks.

The commerce students have outscored those of other streams. Ishani Sharma from Apeejay and Garima Handa of Innocent Hearts School have got 94.6 per cent. Shiv Jyoti School students Kanishka Handa and Daksh Kapoor have obtained 94.4 and 94 per cent marks, respectively. Apeejay students Palak Sehgal and Chestha Malhotra have got 93.8 per cent, while Surbhi Kohli stands behind them on a marginal difference with 93.6 per cent. Anjali of Swami Sant Dass School has also scored the same percentage. Bharat Kataria of Shiv Jyoti School has got 93.4 per cent.

The two 93.2 per cent scorers are Roohi Makkar from MGN and Ritika Aggarwal of Swami Sant Dass School. The 93 per cent marks have been attained by Palak of Apeejay and Gurvesh Grover and Sahil of Swami Sant Dass School. Mansi Chawla of the same school has got 92.6 per cent marks. Malvika Walia of Police DAV School and Anchal Kashyap of Dayanand Model School have got 92.4 and 91.2 per cent marks, respectively. Jashandeep Singh of Guru Amar Dass School and Shivani Dheer of CT Public School have got 91 per cent marks each.

Among non-medical students, Apeejay School student Valleri Aggarwal stands second with 94.8 per cent. Rinkle Malik of Swami Sant Dass School and Rubal Chadha of MGN School have got 94.4 per cent each. Meenal of Swami Sant Dass School stands next in line with 94 per cent. Japsowin of Apeejay, Jasleen Chhabra of MGN and Sarabjit Kaur of Guru Amar Dass School have scored 93.6, 93.2 and 93 per cent marks, respectively.

Sahil Gupta of Apeejay and Mansi Chawla of Swami Sant Dass have scored 92.6 per cent marks each. Ankit Bhutani of CJS School has got 92.4 per cent marks and Parika Goel of Innocent Hearts School have got 92.2 per cent marks. Priya of Shiv Jyoti School and Manish Gupta of Police DAV have got 91.8 per cent each. Lakshya Sethi of Apeejay School has scored 91.4 per cent marks.

Medical stream students Harleen of Innocent Hearts School, Manjinder Singh of MGN and Priyanka Sharma of Swami Sant Dass School have attained 93.6, 93.2 and 92.4 per cent marks, respectively. Apeejay School students, Rohan Sardana, Nishita Gupta and Vineet Sharma have got 92.2, 91.4 and 91.2 per cent marks, respectively.

MGN students Anu Aggarwal and Saloni Grover have got 88.8 and 87.2 per cent marks, respectively, in the humanities stream. Shiv Jyoti student Divya Sharma has scored 84.4 marks while Gagandeep of the same school has attained 82 per cent marks.

Border village girl secures 96% in science stream

A border village girl, Parmit Kaur of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, got the first position in the class XII (science stream) of CBSE examination in the district by scoring 96 per cent marks.

A resident of Gharinda village, located near the international border, she has been travelling about 50 km daily to receive education. Born to unlettered parents, she is the first to gain education in a public school in her family.

Sarbjit Singh and Perneet Kaur of the same school secured 93 per cent marks each.

Meanwhile, the second position was jointly secured by Ravi Sharma and Palak Kapoor of DAV Public School as they secured 95.6 per cent marks each in the district.

Tanvi tops Class X ICSE exam in city

Shenakshi Majhail has stood second with 95.4 per cent and Ravneet Kaur is third with 94.57 per cent. As many as 19 girls of the school have scored above 90 per cent marks. Among the students of St Joseph’s Boys Senior Secondary School, an NTSE scholarship-holder Navkaran Singh has stood first among Class X students with 94 per cent marks. Kanav Uppal is second with 92.6 per cent and Nitish Gupta is third with 92.5 per cent marks. Among Plus Two students of the school, Rajat Dheer has stood first with 93.8 per cent marks in commerce stream. Nimrata Paul has topped in medical stream with 82.5 per cent marks. Atush Badyal is the topper among non-medical stream students with 87.6 per cent.

Dress code issue
School allows girl to wear salwar kameez

The issue of the wearing of a ‘salwar kameez’ by a baptised Sikh student has been amicably resolved in favour of the child. Ravinder Singh Laddi, national general secretary of the SAD (A), who had highlighted the matter, said the school management had allowed Jaskaranpreet Kaur to wear a ‘salwar kameez’ instead of a skirt.

Jaskaranpreet, a student of Class IV of the Guru Tegh Bahadur School, Hazara, had not been allowed to attend classes ever since she refused to wear the school uniform.

The school authorities had asked her to wear the school uniform following which she had stopped going to school and the matter was brought to the notice of the SAD (A).

Laddi had approached Deputy Commissioner Ajeet Singh Pannu and it was on his intervention that the issue was settled without blowing into a raging controversy.

At a meeting held in this context here today, the management was represented by Surjit Singh Cheema and Principal Rajinderjit Kaur Dhindsa while Laddi, Hardeep Singh Raju and Surjit Singh were there on behalf of the SAD (A).

Spy Racket
One more ISI agent held

The police today produced Baldev Raj Kondal, a member of the spy gang, who was arrested by the police yesterday, in the court which remanded him in police custody till May 25.

SP Harpreet Singh said here that the already arrested three other members, Javed Iqbal, Akeela Khan and Charan Dass, were sent to judicial custody till June 4. The police had arrested ISI agent Baldev Raj Kondal on the outskirts of the town after it carried out raids at his possible hideouts.

Kondal’s name was revealed during interrogation by Javed Iqbal, an ISI agent, who was nabbed along with his wife Akeela Khan on May 7, said SP Harpreet Singh.

With the arrest of Kondal, the total number of persons arrested has gone up to four. Charan Dass is the fourth person arrested. According to the police, they are part of an ISI gang operating in and around the town.

Javed Iqbal was living under the fake name of Rajesh Chohan in the Prem Nagar locality. He, along with his wife, was operating a network and sending sensitive documents to the ISI which were detrimental to national security. The police had produced the couple in the court and both were remanded in police custody for 10 days. During interrogation, Iqbal, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan, had revealed the name of Charan Dass, an ex-serviceman working as jail warden in Dharamsala Jail in Himachal Pradesh. The police apprehended Charan Dass and brought him here. He was also remanded in police custody.

2 booked for illegal construction

Taking serious note of the constructions being carried out within the area of 1,000 sq yards near an Army dump and ammunition depot here, the district police today booked Mushtaq Masih and Sardool Singh, both residents of Vallah, registering two separate cases against them.

The District Magistrate had already issued prohibitory orders in this regard under Section 144 of the CrPC. During a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and district police chief yesterday, the Army authorities had also took up this matter with them. They had urged the district administration and police to enhance security and intelligence regarding Gujjars establishing their colonies near defence structures posing grave security threat to the country. During the meeting, the SSP had assured the Army officials of launching a campaign to ascertain the identity of Gujjars.

The police authorities after receiving complaints about the illegal construction of houses within the area of 1,000 sq yards near the Army dump, constituted police teams, which reached the spot and registered cases against Mushtaq Masih and Sardool Singh for violating the prohibitory orders.
