‘Verdict in favour of Manmohan Singh’
Nawanshahr, May 16
The verdict of the people in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls is clearly in favour of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, stated former parliamentary secretary Parkash Singh here on Saturday. He said the people of the country has not only put a stamp on the honesty, uprightness, policies and programmes of the Prime Minister but has also put a check on the political forces which have developed a tendency to nurture their own narrow political aspirations at the cost of the national interest.

Kaypee starts a new innings

Jalandhar, May 16
It was a big day for Mohinder Singh Kaypee, who has made it to national politics. Trying his luck for the Lok Sabha elections for the first time, Kaypee has come out with flying colours.

Earlier, he had contested for the assembly elections from Jalandhar five times. In fact, he was a reluctant entrant to national politics.

However, accepting the party’s directions, he made up his mind to contest the parliamentary election.

Known for his mild manners and cool temperament, Kaypee, even after his win, remained a composed figure. After the win, Kaypee, along with his family, went to religious places to pay obeisance. As soon as the news of his victory started spreading around, supporters started thronging his residence at the local Model Town market beating drums, carrying bouquets and sweets.

As a happy crowd of supporters moved on the roads leading to the house of Kaypee, it led to traffic jams at various places. However, as it was a day of joy for the Congress party, there were no complaints from those caught in the jams. Even the locals were seen jostling to greet the winning candidate. Kaypee, atop an open vehicle, was garlanded by commuters right from his place to the office of the District Electoral Officer, Ajit Singh Pannu.

Congress leaders present on theoccasion were Avtar Henry, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Amarjeet Singh Samra, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Tejinder Singh Bittu, former mayor Surinder Mahey, Jalandhar District Youth Congress (Rural) President, Vikramjit Chaudhary and other party workers.

He said the people of the country has not only put a stamp on the honesty, uprightness, policies and programmes of the Prime Minister but has also put a check on the political forces which have developed a tendency to nurture their own narrow political aspirations at the cost of the national interest.

With the setting up of the Congress-led coalition government for another five-year term at the Centre, the Prime Minister would be able to translate his economic agenda into reality for making India a prosperous and developed state, added Parkash Singh. "In Punjab, though the results are not as per expectations, the people ofthe state has manifestated their annoyance with the virtual non-governance of the SAD-BJP government", he said. — OC
