Jalandhar, April 6
Harry Sharma (16), a student of Class XI of the local New St Soldier Senior Secondary Public School, was badly thrashed today on the mere issue of asking for the school-leaving certificate from the school authorities.

The incident took place in the afternoon when Harry went to the school along with a friend to get his report card and school-leaving certificate from the school Principal. On asking for the same he was told by the Principal that he has failed in Class XI and that he would not get the certificate.

Instead of handing over the school-leaving certificate, Managing Director of the school N.K. Handa and Principal Tavinder Kaur asked the boy to submit an application in this regard. The principal asked the boy to write two separate applications for the same. “In one of the application I was asked to write that I was ill during the exams and in the other I mentioned that I misplaced my answer sheets”, he said. They even asked me to pay Rs 5,000 for getting the school-leaving certificate.

Meanwhile, the boy came out and spoke to his father regarding the issue. “My father asked me not to submit the applications and come home. However, when I again approached the principal and the MD for the applications they started beating me up”, he said.

“I was badly pushed towards the wall by the MD and later on beaten up with a thick rod. It was with the help of my friend that I somehow managed to run outside and reached home”, maintained the boy.

When contacted, the MD, N.K. Handa, said, “These allegations are baseless. Neither I thrashed the boy nor I asked for money. Instead one of his uncle ran away with the answer sheets from the school. How can we allow this thing to happen in the school? He has been a nuisance creator throughout the session”.

On the other hand, S.K. Sharma, father of the boy, who got an MLR made and FIR registered against the MD and the Principal, said, “My son has injury marks on his back. How can the school authorities deny this? The MD threatened my son and said he is not afraid of anybody”.

Interestingly the school has already declared the result of Class XI, according to which Harry has passed the exam, whereas when he approached the school authorities he was told that he has failed. “This came as a big shock for me”, added Harry.
