A technical varsity without power connection, Internet!
Jalandhar, April 3 The university is functioning without a power supply for the past four months. It has been running on a genset ever since it started functioning on its new premises in December last year. While most affiliated colleges have a wi-fi connection, it still is only planning to get it. In fact, the university had been functioning without Internet since the past four months and it has been only a few days that the officers and the staff here got a BSNL broadband connection. Further lagging behind on the technical part, the new closed building does not allow the mobile phone signals to penetrate inside owing to which connectivity remains further curtailed. “We need to stand near the windows keeping them open to attend a phone call. Sometimes even that does not work and we have to come outside in the lawns to make an emergency call. If we are walking inside the corridors, the signals fall very weak and there is a frequent call breaking”, rued the staff. The situation makes everyone wonder how under such circumstances the university managed to maintain liaison with the colleges and their management regarding academic and examination issues. Dean (Academics) Dr V.K. Arora said a load of 270 KW had just been sanctioned by the Union Environment Ministry. “The PSEB staff is on job now giving us the power connection and we expect to get it by April 10. We are also concentrating on improving other technical facilities”, he said. |

Centre biased against Punjab: Sukhbir
Jalandhar, April 3 Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, who was in the city to inaugurate the central election office of the party, said the Centre was aware that the state had used up all its storage space yet no efforts were made by them to lift the piled stocks. This was an attempt to discredit them among the farmers who would blame them for not doing anything during the coming procurement season, he pointed out. Sukhbir said they had raised the vital issue with the Union Agriculture Minister but to no avail. Interestingly, neighbouring Haryana had already been paid for wheat procured in the previous season while the Centre was yet to lift the stocks what to talk about payment, he remarked. He said all-round development of the state would be their main poll plank and they would win all seats. On the influence of Dera votes in Bhatinda, he said they were not worried about a chunk of votes but were looking for votes on the wide-scale development in that constituency. He also praised the stand taken by Bir Devinder Singh in resigning from the Congress on the clean chit given to Jagdish Tytler, one of the main accused in the 1984 Sikh massacre. “Singh is a bold man who listened to his conscience and opted out,” he added. Badal also added that a legal team of the SAD would challenge the clean chit in courts and ensure that justice was done. |
