Citizens seek CBI probe into land deals

After the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, a group of eminent citizens and civil society organisation today demanded a CBI inquiry into the controversial land deals made by the Chandigarh administration for its mega projects, to expose “corruption” in various projects undertaken in the name of development.

Abducted NRI released in Ludhiana
Mohali, December 27 A 24-hour-long kidnapping drama of kidnapping ended today with the victim, an NRI, surfacing at the Ludhiana bus stand. The NRI, Lakhbir Singh, was going towards Chandigarh after visiting his relative in Phase XI here when he was kidnapped by some youths near Jagatpur village.

In order to rein in the hooliganism on the New Year eve, the local police has intensified the challan drive in the city. Nakas have been set up at various points in the city already and security during night hours would be made tighter on December 31.

Four booked for trespassing

The local police registered a case on the complaint of Tejinder Singh, a resident of Sector 27, alleging that Pushpa Devi, her son Mohinder Kumar, a resident of Sector 27, and two others entered his house yesterday, shattered household articles and occupied his house forcibly. A case under Sections 448, 453, 454, 427 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at Sector 26 police station.

A palyer returns a shot in the Junior National Soft Tennis Championship in Chandigarh Baldeep Singh of Madhya Pradesh beat Prashant of Delhi 4-3 in the boys singles final on the third day of the 4th Junior National Soft tennis Championship at St. Peter School, here today. Earlier, in the match played for the third place, Arpan Gujrat surprised Vegnesh T. Nadu 4-2. While the boys’ doubles final was a one-sided affair, in which Baldeep Singh and Amit (MP) gave no chance to their rivals Gauran and Anil (Maharashtra) and dominated the match to trounce them 4-0.
