In yet another case of alleged negligence by doctors of the city’s premier hospital, the GMCH 32, Mukesh Kumar (25) of Sector 22, who was reportedly suffering from high fever, died this afternoon.

25-year-old Mukesh, who was hospitalised for 3 days, died due to the non-availability of blood platelets. His kin were told to arrange for the platelets as the GMCH did not have these. 

Year-old crawls under car; run over

In a tragic incident, one-year-old Vashika was killed when she came under a car in front of her house in Bhaskar Colony yesterday. The driver of the car moved the vehicle, not realising that the child was under the car.

Khurshid’s formula to fix terrorism

The issue of terrorism can be dealt with by streamlining land issues, particularly in tribal areas, providing job opportunities and thereby eradicating poverty and avoiding lopsided development. Haryana wants stretches widened
Chandigarh, November 9
Haryana wants narrow stretches in Parwanoo and Kalka on the Shimla highway to be widened. As traffic regulation and highway widening case came for hearing before a division bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Daya Chaudhary, the Haryana state counsel said a free flow of traffic was obstructed at points near the railway crossing in Kalka and Kali Mata temple. Besides, the area near the Jal Dhara in Parwanoo was required to be widened by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The televised debate between John F Kennedy and Richard M Nixon was probably the most decisive event for the election of 1960, one of the closest in American history. The growth of TV as a new medium and declined use of radio marked a significant change in running election campaigns.  For the TV appearance, Nixon refused to wear make up and thus, appeared unshaven, tired and sweaty under the lights. Jain flays cut in budget

Satya Pal Jain, former Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, today criticised the Congress-led central government for imposing a cut of around Rs 140 crore (10 per cent non-planned and 5 per cent planned) in the budget of Chandigarh for this year.

Expansion of parking hits roadblock

The expansion of the parking area at the Chandigarh railway station has hit a roadblock with the UT administration delaying the permission to cut eucalyptus trees at the station. Though the trees stand on the railways land, the UT has to give clearance for the felling of trees.

In order to revamp the security arrangements on the Panjab University campus, the authorities held a meeting that was attended by the top brass of the varsity.

This is in reference to Raveen Thukral’s article “But, why take this risk” that appeared in Chandigarh Tribune on November 3. He has rightly emphasised the need to use helmet to prevent fatalities as studies suggest that a helmetless driver is three times more at risk of losing his life. There is greater need to spread awareness about traffic rules, especially among the youngsters.

Highway blocked

The Ambala-Chandigarh highway remained blocked for around four hours following an accident today. Traffic remained disrupted after a truck met with an accident at Bankarpur bridge, near Dera Bassi. Police had to toil hard for hours to clear the road of the wreckage.—TNS

The poor farmers of Mehmoodpur village, Jodhpur and Fatehpur, who are members of the Agricultural Cooperative Society, Fatehpur, have demanded a strict action against the secretary as they had been suffering loss since 1985 due to his working in an arbitrary manner. The Ambala police has booked a person of Tepla village for allegedly murdering his wife. The deceased, Jasbir Kaur, a resident of Karnal, was married to Mohan Singh around 12 years back.

Minor held in stabbing case
Chandigarh, November 9
A man in his mid-twenties was critically injured after a group of youngsters stabbed him late last night in Bhaskar Colony, Sector 25, here. The police has arrested a minor boy of the colony in this connection, while his other accomplices are at large.

19 mobile phones, Rs 21,000 stolen
Chandigarh, November 9
Uttam Rawat, a resident of Sector 46, filed a complaint with the police alleging that his cash Rs 21,000 and 19 mobile phones were stolen from his shop by breaking the window during the intervening night of November 7-8. A case under Sections 457, 380 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.
